Looking for a game with an excellent story line.

The last game I played with an excellent story line was Advent Rising a couple years ago. So far nothing except Mass Effect has peaked my interest and that wont be out for a bit. Are there any games out now with an excellent, not avg or good, story line to them?

Can be for any console or PC.
 
Legacy of Kain series? You have to play them all in order to understand, but all those paradoxes kinda makes it hard to follow :)

IMHO, the storyline in Morrowind, was absolutely fantastic, especially when you add the Tribunal exp to the mix.

I also enjoyed FEAR's story very much, not taking into account the exp, which ruined it a bit. It's exactly as if you were in a movie. And you might aswell be in one, considering how similar the game's story is with "The Ring"'s plot.
 
I really liked the storyline of Fatal Frame and Fatal Frame 2. It's probably the only game that has ever pulled me in because of the storyline.

Chronicles of Riddick had a pretty good storyline as well.
 
If your looking for games that look less dated:
Condemned (Best current gen horror game)
Indigo prophecy (gets kind of random near the end)
Dreamfall: The longest Journey (Very good if you beat it then read what others think about it because its easy to miss some of the hidden ideas throughout)

Older Games:
Syberia
The Longest Journey
Planescape Torment
Shenmue 1+2 (This could go on the recent list I guess)
Morrowind (It doesn't directly tell you the story you just kind of find out on your own but its a good one).
 
Recently started God of War 2 and it's pretty exciting, epic and compelling, the cinematics are fantastic and the game play is addicting. oh and the graphics are amazing esp. considering it's a ps2 game.
 
i can really only think of some older games, except FEAR... Homeworld (never played the 2nd game) Deus Ex and the two Myth games. Myth and Homeworld standout in my mind as two of the most gripping and compelling video games i've ever played, but both are RTS (not sure if you are into that)

also Alice was intresting, just to see how fucked up that little girl's mind could get
 
deus ex was awesome! I remember playing it and wishing I could upgrade myself like that.

Dude! Where is Star Control 2?
Star Control 2 is on Gamespot's top ten
 
I thought Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos had an excellent story. Also a great space sim to boot. Bit old, but still looks good.

zomg someone else who liked Advent Rising! another vote for Dreamfall, Deus ex comes to mind, upcoming Bioshock
 
Another vote for DreamFall. Amazing, imaginative story that kept me riveted throughout the entire game.

one of the best games never played, for sure. if i recall correctly that was run on the same engine as PoP:sands of time? anyway... it was definitely too short.
 
Dreamfall was good.

I also liked Kingdom Hearts 1 and I'm about to finish 2. Both stories are awesome.
 
I cant believe this thread got this far without Mafia being mentioned.Best story in a game ever IMHO.

the story isn't AMAZING... but the humor is enough to make up for a few missing elements.
 
Try any game you want but you MUST play Final Fantasy VII.
Storyline is great, music is great.
Its a classic and a must play :)
