158.18 Official Betas Vista Only

These drives fuxored my 32 bit Vista... I can't access the system control panel or shut down without crashing anymore. I'm gonna try rolling back to 101.70 before I try panicking.

great, this is just fucked. my control panel doesn't work now.

i looked this issue up and apparently, restarting the software licensing service is a temporary workaround, but what a pain in the ass. even uninstalling all nvidia drivers completely does not resolve the issue.

In the release notes if you're having problems they recommend:

Uninstall previous drivers.

Install 158 drivers

Uninstall 158 drivers

Reinstall 158 drivers

DId you install the drivers exactly like is recommended on nvidia's site?

Downloading now. I hope this fixes the weird glitch I get in oblivion when using hdr with the .70's

yeah i installed the way they recommend. what i ended up doing is creating a scheduled task vbscript that restarts the slsvc service automatically upon login. not very elegant maybe, but at least i can access my control panel again!

They work, I just dont see any difference! I hope they get these fixed before my 8800 GTX's are obsolete!

So far so good ...these drivers cleared up some issues I was having, mainly Texas hold-em now works, the included chess game no longer crashes, and I got a 40 fps increase in counter strike source.

First I uninstalled the old driver 101.70 then installed this new one and everything is working properly. Even ATIToll OC my gpu in Vista ;)

I installed the drivers on my box. Currently running a A64 3000+ with 2GB RAM and a 6800GT. I know really old stuff! Anyways I have Vista Biz 64bit on my box and I noticed an improvement in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Seems to run a little better then the slide show I had the other day when I installed it. Needless to say I'm upgrading as soon as the Intel price drops hit.

That's simply a commonsense approach, rather than anything special. Besides, I've tried that and it hasn't resolved the issues I'm having with these cards on my SLI'd 6600GT system. Shame that. :(

I was looking forward to using them too, because one of the corrections in this release is the 'Media Center loses half the high definition display when SLI is enabled' problem. Trouble is, when this driver is installed the system no longer recognises the monitor correctly and doesn't make widescreen resolutions available. Quite a few others annoyed about this new problem too, judging by comments on the Nvidia support forums.

i'll wait until final release. The last set of vista drivers I installed gave me a bsod at startup.

nVidia has some install issues. I followed the procedure for installing the Vista drivers.
After installing and setting up the control panel I then rebooted later on, only to find on restart no drivers had installed?? So I had to install them again. I installed as administrator.

Some issues.
How come digital vibrance and image sharpening are greyed out?
When I saved my game profiles under manage profiles there is no list
telling me what was saved?

Wow, how long has it been and they still can't do their drivers properly.

Worked great. Installed...screen turned black, that sucked, had to restart, reuninstall, worked, restarted, installed new drivers, restarted, everything works. :) Also for some reason, vsync has ALWAYS worked for me in the past, though I've been hearing it hasn't in Vista..

uh................................

Installed, and now I can't get my widescreen resolutions for my Westinghouse. It only is going up to 1280x1024.. it recognizes the Westy is connected, and won't even get it anything past 720p under TV settings either.

Back to the old drivers... :(

Never had a "Server Execution" failure.. how is this related to video cards in Vista...?

Guess we're having different issues then. When I installed these drivers, that was the type of problem I had.

I hate NVIDIA, and i am never going to buy new cards until they have good drivers for it.

I'm running widescreen at 1680x1050 with no problems with the new drivers.
Running Vista Business with all standard settings except UAC disabled.

When I installed the drivers, it seemed to uninstall the old driver first, and for a second it kicked me resolution down which messed up my icons then went back to my native resolution. My PC rebooted by itself and when it loaded my desktop back up it finished in driver install and rebooted again. No problems so far.

Yeah, I suspect the screen resolution issue is related to model of monitor, but that's just a guess of course. My own Acer widescreen jobbie didn't even get recognised as a Plug and Play monitor under these drivers. Uninstall and use an earlier driver and it works just fine.

Re-downloaded and re-installed these new drivers again. My 1920x1080p option came back. :)

Guess it didn't install right the first time or something. Anyhow, I did some testing, and my HDDVD issue is fixed from the last set of drivers. Sometimes periodically during HDDVD playback the nvidia driver would stop responding causing the screen to turn black, then come back 2 seconds later. That's fixed. I don't see anything wrong with these drivers yet. Everything seems to be working smooth. Oh.. except no digital vibrance yet. :(

The black screen/no response happened to me too, but unlike you I simply restarted and the drivers were there. I've had no problems with these so far, gained a mild increase of a couple hundered points in 3dmark 06; all games working good (STALKER, C&C3, and supreme commander); image quality looks great.

Still wishing we could enable AA/HDR with stalker; I thought that was a driver problem now I'm led to believe it's the game problem?

SLI is still completely broken for GX2 users that have 4GB of system RAM. I have submitted another bug report already.

Tried these a little last night. First install bombed and my system actually locked up during the second try. Once everything was settled, things were working okay. For some reason it keeps setting my LCD's refresh to 59Hz instead of 60. It's not that big of deal, but it makes the image look a little "off" when swapping windows.
STALKER's performance went through the roof. I must be pulling 60FPS all the time, although I still have dynamic lighting turned off. Doesn't make the game any less buggy, but it runs like a dream now. I'll have to see if it still crashes with dynamic lighting turned on.
FEAR still does really well. It amazes me how much better this game does in Vista. I turned EVERYTHING to the max and it was 100% over 40FPS in the demo. In XP it was usually 50/50 with some occasional dips even lower.

Riptide - what verision if vista are you running (64)

I was think of installing vista this weekend in my sig

Well, I just had one slight problem. After booting up my computer and loading my desktop, my screen went black for a few seconds, then came back with a little bubble report on the taskbar saying "Display driver has stopped functioning and has recovered"
No obvious problems after that.

...oh yeah. the nTune temperature setting and fan settings are still disabled, too.
Not the end of the world, but it's interesting that they'd do that.
8xxx series cards run pretty hot so they might just hide it so older customers don't flip.

I wondered about that too :) They obviously have the functionality working, since you can see the temps with the nvidia monitor app - just not through the control panel.

Other than that, these drivers worked fine for me when installing them exactly as described in the 8 step installation guide that you have to read before you download them.

(I upgraded from 100.64's (I skipped the .65 release and never installed any 101.xx drivers))

Dreamscene hasn't crashed my system (yet), so that's a bonus (so far).

64bit. Which is what you'll want to be running in the first place if you have 4GB of memory. 32bit is fine for less than that, in which case you'll never see the SLI problem come up in the first place.
