The Elite is real. No more rumors, no crap

I'll probably pick one up. Bout time they released something in black :D

...now for the black wii! And you know what they say about the size of a black wii, if you know what I mean.

bah...

not an upgrade for most outside of color.

Decalgirls.com has better options for less money.

My projector has DVI and not HDMI....so besides the larger HD it's not of use...and the larger HD isn't that big of a deal.................

I'm with the rest of the group though...They should have upped the price of this SKU to $500 or even $525 and included the larger HD and built in wireless.

Too bad they didn't go all out and throw an HD-DVD drive in. I mean, they might as well since they've already pissed everyone off with no HDMI on the original 360. I guess this answers the question of weather or not the 360 can output a digital signal, no cable will ever come out now.

I would have went for this if it had built in wireless and an HD-DVD drive for an even $500. As it stands it's just a big ripoff.

It's unbelievable/ridiculous that Microsoft is charging $180 for a freakin' 120GB drive.

I do like the black finish but after watching that video I feel much better about keeping my premium system just the way it is. I have no immediate need for HDMI and the Xbox guy stressed that the Elite won't have any special content.....and nothing created for it that can't be done on the regular premium. The 120GB HD is mainly for people who buy a ton of Arcade games and download a lot of HD movies/tv shows...none of which I do much of. Built-in wireless ethernet might have given me more reason to ditch mine and get the Elite however..

edit- lol @using Quicktime to announce a new MS product.:p

While its cool that there is a bigger HDD and HDMI for the xbox360, it's a shame MS gave up so much of their price advantage. The black does look nice though. :p

MS should have waited until they were willing to drop the price of the system by $100.

$199 Core
$299 Premium
$379 Elite

Now these prices would have made some great press. An Elite for less than the previous price of the Premium or the Core & 64MB memory card($230) for less than a Wii. We might see this for the holiday season though. MS may be waiting for the early adopters of the elite to buy the system before dropping the prices. Making the extra cash on the earlier adopters is good business and also helps supply and demand issues.

Finally, I understand that the xbox360's memory and HDD are proprietary and allow for some great things like extra security, HDDVD movies, IPTV, and other content, but the price still seems high. I think $149 for the 120GB and reducing the 20GB to $79 would have looked much more attractive. Although, people are willing to pay $50 per month on cell phones or $250+ for an ipod so what do I know.

And joemama: If you downloaded all 50 xbl arcade games it would take up about 2GB. The 120GB is really only for video marketplace. Or storing EVERY game demo and game trailer (there's ~65 game demos on MP from 300MB to 1.5GB).

They should have offered more for another release. Just not much going for it. Built in wireless, built in HD-DVD drive, non propriety HD would be a big plus.

A thing I wonder. I am not sure on bandwidth but could the Xbox 360 enjoy 5.1/7.1 PCM tracks/audio from Hd DVD? Obviously the HDMI can handle that but I am curious about the HD DVD -> XBOX usb connection.

Yup, I agree. They should drop the price of the Core, and sell it off completely. Then let the Premium become the "new" Core at 300 bucks, while the Elite sells for around $400 bucks. Oh well. I like the bigger hard drive, but other then that I'm glad I bought my Premium over a week and a half ago. Maybe sometime down the road, if I can find a good deal on the 120 gig drive, I'll pick it up. 20 gigs is fine for now.

This makes me feel a little better about my impatience about buying a 360 before this comes out. :)

There is nothing it that can do that will be better than what a premium can do except bigger HDD and HDMI.

I have no use for HDMI anyways...like I'll even be able to tell between 720p and 1080p on a little 20" monitor

EDIT: Quick question, can the premium upscale DVDs already? It says the Elite can on xbox.com but it doesn't say anything about the Premium being able to.

The VGA cable connected to the Xbox360 can upscale DVDs, but the component cables can only do 480p.

That being said, I really want a bigger HD and HDMI, but I'm not buying a whole new console for it. I sincerely hope they find a way to make an HDMI cable for existing Xbox360s, and I'll consider the bigger drive depending on the price.

Where is the 65nm!!!!!! Bastards!!! And $175 for a 120 gig is crazy.

As soon as they switch to 65nm and the elite drops to $400 I will buy one.

This thing is almost as bad a ripoff as the Core system is when compared to the premium console.

But lets see if Micro$oft as we all know them is able to crank out more money with this puppy.

PS: I know XBOX brags about how huge its install base is, which it definitely is. But do they count all the broken ones that needed to be replaced (I heard of many stories) and now I am sure they will count XBOX folk who drop their previous systems for this new one.

Just curious.

I'm really not seeing as how this is a ripoff, or why people are getting angry over this release.

$80 for a bigger 100GB bigger hard drive doesn't seem that horrible to me. You can still get the premium for $400, which is what I think most people will continue to get.

What a fucking shameful release. Ill be getting one though only because i got money to burn and "black is better!" I do think its a rip off for what you get. so does this thing have a quieter dvd drive? How much profit are in those hard disks!!!!? if i remember correctly a 160gb sata 2.5" drive costs around $120, a 120 gig is around $100!

How much profit are in those hard disks!!!!?

A lot?? haha. Yet XBOX Forces you to use their hard drives and other accessories. No choice eh...ya proprietary sucks the big one.

But then again, with all these damn consoles you end up spending a crap load more money than you expect. Even the Wii. The F'in controllers cost 1/5 the price of the bloody console and the w/ the numchuck cost even more. The PS3 is a gaming machine with a $200 dollar entertainment center on its back which some people don't want or need. The XBOX has its hard drive, wifi thing, cables and more. Goody!!! haha.

Wow... it wasn't a joke... I might have actually bought a 360 had this been a decent price...

TEH FUCKING LOOOOOSE@!

$80 isn't really that big of a price difference. And you can still get the $400 version...

120GB for 179$ USD = RAPE. They must use the most expensive plastic in the world!

Am I the only person who thinks comparing a product to a horrible crime against women is completely inappropriate?

Good thing I've got Walmart's 2 year replacement warranty. I'll walk in with $80 and swap them out :)

$80 for HDMI +100GB more space? And black? I'm in

I bet stores already have plans set in place now so you can not upgrade your system.
They will probably get you a new one off the shelf (old white Xbox 360) or send it back & repair it for you.

Stores, if smart, will not allow an upgrade even if you bought a warranty.

~Also, this price is horrible. Now if you want to buy the HD-DVD addon you spend MORE than you would on a PS3. While the PS3 comes with wireless.
This is just another horrible idea by M$ to make some quick money, they should spend some more time looking into what there customers WANT than what will fill there pockets with more money.

For only $70 more you're getting 100 more GB's and an HDMI cable. (Can't buy a decent one for less than $50 in a store). It's far from a ripoff and is a better value than the premium.

Yes, compared to the Premium it isn't that bad. The thing is everyone know that MS can afford a price drop across the board. They are nearing 100$ of profit per each console sold.

Could MS have lowered the price of the Core/Premium/Elite? Sure. Did they need to? No. The PS3 is putting up one half assed fight right now, MS is obviously not scared at all, and they probably don't see the Wii as infringing upon their sales.

EDIT: I love this announcement because I have a black controller that could really use that black rechargeable battery ;)

$479 for HDMI and 120GB harddrive  This is blasphemy....This is madness.....
