What would be the best single slot video card?

I would guess the 8800GT, however I noticed that the ati 3870 is available in single slot format.

8800GT will play games with higher framerates and have better AA performance.

It's tempting to say wait until the GT200 vs. RV700 show up within a couple of months but then I'd just get a line like this:

I'd suggest waiting until the year 2020 to upgrade. That way you know you're getting your money's worth.

Thank you. I did forget to mention that it will be driving either a 1920x1200 (most likely) or a 2560x1600 monitor.
