same here. i always wanted to be able to see the action from my own POV in games, and when wolf3d and then doom came out, i found this gameplay immersive like no other game before.

i still prefer fast, simple shooters on the PC in the style of UT / QL, relying on mobility and quick aim rather than on stealth. i don't feel like gaming much these days after staring at a screen at work, and arcade shooters are perfect for a quick game without having to build up your character, just jump into the game and frag someone.
 
Have you guys checked this site? I think it's really interesting the way they break down gamer types:
