honestly, that sounds like a fishy explanation for the problem. maybe the motherboard was faulty from the manufacturer, but plenty of people are running P67 boards with 2600Ks with no problems, and even asrock P67 Pro3s with 2600Ks with no problems. it sounds more like a power outlet or faulty motherboard problem than an incompatibility problem. hopefully this new board does better for you though and you can avoid any future problems. what new psu did you get this time?
also, you dont need a time capsule or anything. a simple usb external backup like you have is fine. just as long as its always in 2 places. and you shouldnt need a battery backup, just a new surge protector is fine. it doesnt even have to be one of those fancy pc-special ones, just a regular (but new) one is good enough.
