Instead of having a bunch of threads going for these displays I figured we could have one thread to rule them all with all of the important information in the first post.
Why are the Samsung S2xA850x Displays Important?
They use PLS panels from Samsung=Samsung's version of IPS=No gamma shift & wide viewing angles.
The Samsung 8 series is important because the S2xA850x are the ONLY non TN & VA matte 1920x1200 & 2560x1440 resolution panels that do not use an extremely grainy matte coating, unlike the matte IPS panels from LG. Instead the use a semi-glossy coating which is the lightest of all matte coatings.
What are the differences between the D & T?
As far as I know the main difference is that the S27A850T version forgoes having 2x Dual-Link DVI inputs and replaces one with an HDMI input.
The Samsung S27A850T Cnet Australia reviewed had an average gamma of 2.19 out of the box while the S27A850D's seem to consistently have a higher average gamma of 2.40=slight over saturation and minor black crush.
Most of the Samsung S27A850D's reviewed have a contrast of around 800:1 while Cnet Australias 850T had a contrast of 886:1 out of the box. My Samsung S27A850D's contrast is was around 850-8750:1 out of the box, and 850:1 after calibration. Most of the S27A850D's reviewed have had back-light bleeding while Cnet Australia's 850T did not have any.
It should be noted that Cnet Australia used an i1 display 2 colorimeter which is not that accurate with LED back-lit displays.
