They pointed nukes at us as part of the former USSR's 'wipe you from the earth' arsenal. Wipe you from the earth is a hard thing to forget. The USSR ended and there is new leadership which supposedly we don't have that kind of negative relationship with. With respect to Cuba, the same people who wanted to be part of 'wipe you from the earth' arsenal are still in charge.

China supposedly didn't/doesn't wield that kind of arsenal and the number pointed definitively at the US has been considered pretty small. But, we shouldn't have the trade relationship we have with them either. .

Didn't you get the memo? Fido Castro is dead so nope, the same people are not in charge. Besides, that was like 60 years ago. Almost everyone alive back then is long dead or was a little munchkin when it happened and is nearly long dead.

Gorbachev calls the Cold War a colluded effort between two ingrained military establishments. The idea might sound preposterous until one compares the propaganda and scare campaigns waged in our country and the USSR (in ours it was "Duck and Cover" etc). Our military was all dressed up with nowhere to go starting in 1945 and so was theirs, so the two countries created a permanent excuse for wartime spending levels in peacetime, and has funneled in excess of $100 trillion in public money (80% of it to the Pentagon) to itself over 70 years. The money has bought us close to absolutely nothing except endless military adventurism, 150,000 dead American soldiers, rusted tanks and other weapons and two bankrupt federal governments.
