The BEAST

If I'd read the entire first post more carefully, I would have subscribed sooner! Loving this design.

On a side note, I have aranged to take a visit up to Mountain Mods in Eugene Oregon. They are going to let me snap a few photos for this build thread. Can't wait to go. Don't know when I will leave, but when I do, I'll let you all know.

Are you close enough to drive to Eugene or are you flying?

Dear Quicksilver_;

Thanks. No prob. Thre are a lot of times I'll look in on a build thread and not read a thing. Just looking at the pics. So, I'm just as guilty.

Because of my condition, If it takes longer than an hour to drive, forget me showing at all. Eugene Oregon is a flight trip. I'll more than likely fly into Portland. Ben @ Mountain Mods has to go into Portland, so he offered to pick me up there. If we can't swing that, I'll still probably fly into Portland. It's still cheaper than flying into Portland, and then flying into Eugene.

Just got another package in the mail. Hot swap bay device goodness.

Haven't had a chance to try it out. It seems this device is more suited towards thicker mechanical 2.5" HHD's. There is a lot of play (top to bottom) with an SSD installed. We will see.

Stay tuned!

More package goodness. I love getting things delivered. Especially to me! More hot-swap bay device goodness. I found this on TigerDirect. Seems better than the Akasa. Time will tell.

This is more suited to a SAS connector. Apparently they have secondary connections. (I don't really know. Haven't dealt with SAS. This was stated in the directions).
IMG_8983.jpg

This is the thing I like over the Akasa. Only one power connector for all four drives.

See that little rectangle. That is for the HDD LED. The LED is actually located in the back where the SSD plugs in. It starts here, travels up this length of plastic and terminates at the front.

I like how the SSD gets screwed in. This might be a turn-off compared to the Akasa. With the Akasa, the drive goes in bare. I like this method better though. More secure. And really, how many large SSD's am I going to need for back-up's?

Since I'm having to wait for my case to be made, I figured I'd get a new home for my current machine. The case is a Best Buy Rocketfish made by Lian Li. I was in a hurry to put her together so I didn't pay much heed to cable organization. Going to try and spruce her up a bit this go-round. The mobo is an Asus P8P67 Deluxe with an Intel i7-2600K (cooled by a Corsair H70) with 16GB of Corsair DDR3 1600MHz memory. I'm using an EVGA 680 GTX for video. A 2 TB WD Black HDD spinning win 7 64 bit Home Premium. The main reason for upgrading is the Lian Li case only held 4 HDD's. It might have held more, but I just can't remember where I put the extra drive cages. It was time for a change anyways. Here is what she looks like now.

IMG_8830.jpg

On with the new case. A Cooler Master Strom Stryker. Sucker holds 8 HDD's!

I wanted to get a new PSU, so I opted for the Corsair 860. It was all Fry's had at the time. Didn't want to spring for the 1200.

IMG_8854.jpg

I also wanted to get a new CPU CLC (Closed loop cooler). 140mm fans a super quiet, so the H110 was an easy pick.

Here she is installed!

Not too shabby. I like the fact that I can put more of my back-up drives inside.

Stay tuned!

Here is what over $1400 in red Bitspower fittings looks like (thanks and kudos go out to Performance PC's). I went a little overboard I know, but these red fittings are so cool looking. I actually have more coming on Tuesday. Call me crazy.

Bulging bag.

1400 USD in knobs, and fittings!?! I like your attention to detail and you're propensity for the crazy.

Dear [H]'ers,

Tomorrow is my big trip to Oregon to visit Mountain Mods! I'm super stoked. I'll make sure to take a lot of pictures. Wish me luck!

Stay tuned!:)

Have fun and hurry back you have allot of work to do here including updates with lots of pics.....:D
Enjoy yourself out there!

Great build man!

I haven't been to HardOCP in years and thought about how I used to follow the Beast 3 build log back in my early college years.

Thanks for your amazing work. Your build logs were always inspirational.

This build log is pornography. What a fanstastic setup youll have

You should be back by now???
In the OP he said he was in the last stages of renal cancer. The last time he was on [H] was late last month. In one of the pics there is a package with his address on it. Using that I come up with a phone number but I'm afraid of what I might find out if I call.
