I have a motherboard that has 2 sata connetions for the hard drives and i was wondering if it is possible to have two sata hard drives running with the two ide hard drives? So i can have four hard drives total in my computer

The only other limitation that comes to mind (and why your friend might have said something) is on some motherboards (for example, the ASUS P4P800 SE), when running a legacy OS (Win 98, Me, NT4, etc.), the chipset will only support either two SATA devices and one IDE channel or the two IDE channels. Not likely in your case, but nevertheless I thought I'd throw it out there...
