I've never used a mechanical keyboard (unless my C64 and 386 25-35 years ago, and the older Bloomberg keyboards count) and am looking for a decent low-cost starter. I have the opportunity to pick up a new Osmium with Cherry MX Browns for cheap, around $45. Any opinions vs other options in this segment? The main things I'm looking for are:
- Good tactile feel for gaming (I mostly play 3rd person shooters/adventure games e.g. AC, Deus Ex and some isometric RPGs e.g. Divine Divinity
- I do some analytics in market data apps e.g. Bloomberg, Cap iQ, so entering quick in-app codes; some Excel work
- Good/easy volume control
- USB pass-thru a bonus, but not a must
- ability to turn off backlight
