1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
- Gaming, home business use, web design.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
- $800 including taxes and LCD monitor.
3) Where do you live?
Toronto, ON
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
- AMD (or Intel?) CPU, 8GB RAM minimum, 500GB HD 7200RPM, keyboard, LCD or LED, motherboard, wireless PCI card or wireless USB whatever cheaper. I
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
have speakers (M Audio Av30s, and a mouse (Logitech Mx518) already.
6) Will you be overclocking?
- Nah
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
- I want at least a 20" LED…or LCD?
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
- After I sell my macbook pro 15"…trying to get $1200 at least out of it
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? etc.
USB 3…I will not be RAIDing
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
- I got a license for Windows 7 Ultimate

Prices in CAD please. I prefer shopping at www.canadacomputers.com. The case I am looking at is a Thermaltake VL90001W2Z Armor A90 Mid Tower Case

Please advise. Looking to buy this after I sell my 15" macbook pro but I still want to stick with a $800 CAD budget if possible. Thank you

Ok that's not very helpful: Your build date could be anywhere from a week from now to a two months from now. And even if you say that you will be selling that MacBook this month, there's a good chance that may not happen within that timeframe or at all and therefore all of the hardware advice given for this month will be a waste of time.

In other words, bump this thread up when you've actually sold the Macbook. By then we'll know for sure whether or not you'll actually have $800 for said build and when exactly you can start buying the parts for this PC.

my budget is $850

Thank you

I guess I never asked, what games are you looking to play? I have a bunch of parts in my cart at Canada Computers that I'll post shortly, but depending on your answer to that my recommendation could change.

Okay, so I'm making the assumption that you can go to their store and get some of the parts cheaper.

Subtotal: $861 (can't calculate shipping or tax without an account.) You could drop down to a Core i5-2300 or Core i3-2100 but if you can stretch, the 2500 is a great CPU.

I like your configuration a lot. I play Crysis 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and waiting for the new Batman game.

if the subtotal if $861 then the final price is *1.13 which is 972 :S not bad though
I would change the Acer LCD to maybe an LG LED? and the keyboard sucks...I'd get the Microsoft Curve keyboard

Should I up the power supply? the 500W might not be good enough for the i5 and PNY GeForce GTX 460 according to a friend of mine?

The 500 Watt should work fine, especially since you're not overclocking.

I have updated the config and ordered the following (LCD has been changed to a Samsung LED and RAM changed to a 8GB Patriot RAM since the G Skill is out of stock)
