LiteOn SATA DVD burner model # LH-20A1S
Abit KV8 Pro w/ AMD64 2800+
Seagate SATA 160gig
except for the burner i built this system about 2 years ago

when ordering a new dvd burner to replace my old 40x cd burner i decided to get a sata interface since i could. it works fine except for the massive cpu usage while burning. regular CD-Rs are the worst... the cursor skips across the screen and winamp sutters. buring DVDs isnt so bad, i can still use the system but cpu usage is above 95% while burning. the source can be either from my sata primary drive or my pata secondary drive.

is this because of my older motherboard with first gen sata controler or do all sata burners do this? its not a huge issue, just annoying (espically with CD-R)

just after i posted this i decided to update my via chipset drivers, i'll get back when i have the results of that
