Mario Party 8 Recalled Due to "Spastic"
13.07.2007 21:22

With Mario Party 8 finally hitting stores in the United Kingdom today, a dose of Friday 13th bad-luck has hit Nintendo with all copies being recalled due to a "wrong version" of the software being distributed.

According to N-Europe, various reports suggest that the game contains the word "spastic", a politically incorrect term for someone who has some phyically/mentally inept charactistics.

No final date for the game has been set; be sure to stick around for updates...
Kinda crazy, all because of one word in the game :p. Most likely i think it was because of the wrong version. I guess they were really rushing it and forgot to click the right version to burn ;).

It's good to know the US isn't the only country where being PC has run amok.

Whoever decided to recall it over that is a freaking spaz. Seriously, a gimped little cripple with no nuts at all :p

So spastic means .."Mentally Challanged"? wow we really do live in a PC world .

Sad....:(

So when someone has a spastic colon, they're colon is mentally retarded?

..er...how many people would have ever even realized it's an offensive term?

I suppose there are plenty of people who spend all day every day looking for things to be offended about, so somebody would have spotted it and gotten a few million out of it in court...

How many of you live in the UK?

Have you stopped to consider that maybe "spastic" has the same connotations in the UK that "retard" has in the US?

But the English don't have a problem with dropping the C-bomb or using the word "Bollocks", however 'spastic" is not allowed?

Hmmmmm.......

Just because we don't mind using the word socially or on tv after the watershed doens't mean the words are acceptable for a kids game :D

this is a great move on Nintendo's part .. who knows of the untold thousands of their mentally challenged wii gamers that would have been emotionally distraught at hearing/reading of their condition so referred to in such an abrasive manner had this issue not been addressed ... :(

In a recent poll taken amongst it's user base in the U.K. ... over 81% of wii players were indeed mentally challenged and stood to be affected by this dastardly reference ...

At least that what was reported over at the Inq .. the article was mysteriously just pulled tho
