In defense of the LAPD, the statue looks real and they were responding to a pressed panic button. This story is still pretty funny though. ;) Thanks to ninjaturtle for the link.

The 911 response ended in a tense showdown with a life-sized statue of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's Simon "Ghost" Riley, which the police mistook for a gunman.

Crap, now there will be a 10 day waiting period for mannequins,,,

Oh that's too great! How funny. It does look very realistic, I can see why the alarm. Seems like the LAPD had a good sense of humor about it after the fact.

Derp.......

Yup, those bad guys in LA are so brazen, they stand right in the window in plain sight.

and, they are so high tech they have no infra-red signature.:eek::eek:

Wonder why they didn't have a meeting or an email or something telling people what those were. Panic buttons don't do a lot of good if nobody knows that they are there.

I say this will be good advertising PR for Call of Duty Ghosts that is due to be released in a few months. Good play ATVI..........

How many innocent people were killed by the LAPD in taking down this terrible statue?

Do you not remember the whole Dorner thing where the police were shooting at every look-alike property that belonged to Dorner such as his gray truck and people that looked liked him? The city had to put up signs on themselves saying "I'm not Dorner."

Oh yeah, I did forget about that.

Mannequins? Wait until they call for a 10-day waiting period for purchasing Call of Duty. Guns and shits yo.

Wouldn't someone have noticed that the statue didn't move? I guess if they had someone stationed outside keeping watch then that would have become obvious. But apparently it's a better tactic to storm a building with every available body rather than place a lookout on the perimeter.

It's a miracle that the only real casualty here was the image of the LAPD.

In other news, Rev. Sharpton and Quannel X are in talks with the statue about a possible lawsuit over police brutality.

I'd love to see the police's reaction to coming into the center of the Blizzard Irvine complex with the lights out. :) Hello 12ft tall statue of an orc on the back of a wolf.

I would have laughed if SWAT did a dynamic take-down of the subject.

"Our studio is equipped with a 'panic' alarm in case of an armed threat, which was installed yesterday," Bowling said. "One of our designers, who shall not be shamed, pressed it on his way out because apparently when boys find buttons that they are unsure of, their first instinct is to push it."

Oh boy, I've done that. I worked IT in one of the large strip casinos. I was above the cage in the executive office and saw a switch while under the desk. The young me, obviously feeling the urge to press this button, did so. I didn't realize they had panic buttons under executive desks. Security responded.

All was good.

Did you read the article.... Oh wait that requires work. They only came because somebody pressed a newly installed panic button not knowing what it was. Police came, entered the building looking around to find somebody and saw the statue thought it was a person at first then did realize it was just a dummy. They quested the only person there, looked around some more to make sure there really wasn't an issue. They didn't see that in a window and rush the building. A programmer started pressing buttons that he didn't know what they did

Very few here read anything but the misleading titles Steve posts.

A game developer whose studio is completely empty by 7 PM?
Only if they just finished a milestone a couple days before.

Mannequins. The next thing to get banned/restricted in New York.... /rolleyes

Cheap PR stunt. CoD... who the hell watches such movies anymore

I hate the fact that there's a term "Swatting" I seriously hope they catch someone who does it and nails their ass to the inside of a prison wall for 20+ years.

Yeah, I'm guessing in plain sight during the day the police, even SWAT doesn't break out the IR goggles.

Obviously I didn't. Though the fact that it pissed in your cornflakes made my post worth it 100 times.

surprised LAPD didn't shoot through the glass and throw some incendiary tear gas into the building. :p

There is really no reason for a special panic button in a non-cash business.

Standard alarms come with a panic button. BUT, the alarm company calls first.

Something smells, and not like Napalm In The Morning.
