Is there any reason Newegg stopped selling Hitachi 3TB drives?

I noticed that its OOS and has been for quite some time. I see them in stock at other retailers. Curious to find out if they stopped selling them for any particular reason?

The 5k3000s are EOL. We await to see what WDC replaces it with, if they do at all.

I noticed that, too. No 5K3000 models for sale on newegg.

My guess is that is one of the models WD sold to Toshiba. I'm just guessing, but I know that WD agreed to sell 3.5" HDD assets to Toshiba in order for the regulators to approve the Hitachi GST acquisition. I don't know when we will start seeing Toshiba-branded 3.5" HDDs.

what I'm guessing is there is no money in giant hard drives, no demand, no desire for quality, just a big black hole for enthusiasts to be sucked into and destroyed by tidal forces and then atomized and ejected axially pulled bit by bit and resequenced into new matter, once again children of the stars

There is tremendous money in giant drives, because they are the biggest they can charge more per GB and that is where the largest margins are. Look for example at the 7K4000 in 3TB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145621 which is 3TB for $349 (~116/TB) and the 4TB version of the same drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145622 which is 4TB for $529 (~132/TB).
