1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

  • Gaming and programming (python)

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

  • $700 all inclusive.

3) Where do you live?

  • Florida

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

  • CPU, RAM, case, video card, hard drive

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

  • I have a Corsair 650watt power supply that I will be reusing.

6) Will you be overclocking?

  • Plan on it

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

  • I have a 23'' Acer P235H that does 1920x1200

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?

  • I would most likely buy parts used off here :p

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

  • I'd like raid, but that's all I particularly care for, oh and stability :) Nice OC features would be cool.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?

  • 64-bit win 7

My goal is find a way in that price range to get an AMD/ATI 5870 (or dual 5770) and be able to feed it with the other parts.

====================== Potential Offers =========================
These are offers that I have had from people here on [H]. I'm putting them below so you can use them in your build recommendations if you wish.
Feel free to give me offers as well. Even post them here so that others can use your offers in their recommendations.

Secured Offers
Offers I am certain I will get, the seller has guaranteed I'll get them.

  • PO#2
    i7 920 comes with Cooler Master Hyper 212+ HSF
    MSI X58M motherboard - comes with I/O shield, 1 sata and 1 ide cables, and driver CD.
    4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz - G.Skill brand
    $405 shipped with insurance and tracking, I have this one secured.

Most interesting offers
Offers I like and am heavily considering

  • PO#4 --> ATI 5870 $305 shipped

  • PO#5 --> ATI 4870x2 $160 shipped (no warranty, but hey, good power for good price)

Rejected Offers
Offers I've turned down or just don't want but at one point considered.

  • PO#1 --> EVGA 790i SLI FTW, a 2x2GB kit of mushkin DDR3 and an E8500 for $300 shipped.

  • PO#3 --> E8400/Asus P5Q Deluxe/Gskill 4gb DDR2/Thermalright TRUE combo for $250 shipped
    or
    add Corsair HX620 620W psu and an ATI 4870x2
    $500 shipped for all.

Edit 1:
Right now I'm thinking PO#2 with PO#4, but then I'm out of $ and a case and hd short. If I can find a case I can use a laptop HD i have lying around till I get more $ for a HD.

Edit 2 (latest):
I'm thinking PO#2 and PO#5 so I've got a little wiggle room for a case and an HD. No chance of getting an SSD this time around, but maybe I'll save and just get a cheap HD.

1 and 3 are both not that good.

The problem with getting 2 and 4 is that more than likely, there's zero warranty left with the mobo and GPU (Unless it's a XFX card), the parts that have a higher failure rate in my experience. As for the exceeding budget part, you have to ask yourself this: Can you spare the $70 ($50 for a decent case) over your budget? Thats something you're gonna have to decide right now. If you can't spare the $20 to $70 over your budget, then no point whatosever in pining over any of those options. And if it's a non-XFX card, you also have to decide whether or not the lack of a warranty is worth getting the HD 5870 used.

Yeah what I'm looking at now is a 4870x2 that is rather used, but working for $160. That's better and gives me some working room.

Seems like a big sacrifice in power compared to the other options I have, but is that all under $700 new?
I was hoping for a socket that is likely to have upgrades on it so I'm not stuck grabbin' a new board later.

Wait, is this the 1GB or 2GB version? Meaning does both GPU have acess to 1GB of VRAM each or just 512MB of VRAM each?

If 512MB of VRAM each, then not really worth it since at your resolution, 512MB of VRAM is barely enough.

Dunno yet, the guy hasn't gotten back to me yet. I will check to see, because that resolution is important to me.
