Fallout 4

I have never used the Nexus mod site before or modded Fallout 4, but I downloaded the Mod Pack that fixes and enhances the latest update from Bethesda.
How do I know if the mods are actually working in game? I have the Steam Version of Fallout 4, btw.

I don't know about their newest version, but I've read about the Nexus mod manager having issues in the past. I'd use Wabbajack instead.

Wabbajack modlists can also be found on Nexus and other places.

Hopefully the PC version gets more attention that it did with the last patch. Maybe at least a fix for weapon debris? I don't think it's too much to ask for a fix for one of the basic system options.

Either way, I'll just keep plugging along. I'm thinking that after I finish all the DLC, I'll probably be close to level 50. That's only having barely touched the main story. With all the fusion cores I've found I might just rock power armor full-time for the main quest.

Would like an official fix for the loading time issue, too. These are all outstanding issues that have been around for 9 years.

i keep seeing that, mine seems fine. i also keep seeing people comparing to the ps5s....
got it on an nvme?
Yes, it's installed on my SN850X. Transitioning from indoors to out and vice versa takes as long as an HDD. It took anywhere from 20-45 seconds when I was playing around with the new patch after it came out. It should only take a few seconds if the loading screen wasn't tied to the framerate.

ah so its a post-patch thing, did not realize that because i saw old vids from years ago complaining about it. is the high fps patch still broken?

Haven't tried it yet post-patch, but it was always a thing as far as I can remember.
The first time I played it, it would take upwards of 2-3 minutes to load. Transitioning to one cell to another (opening a door into or outside a building) would take even longer, especially in downtown Boston.

I found if I alt-tabbed during a load screen, it would speed things up considerably since the frame rate would go up over 100fps sometimes.

Just finished Vault 88. Popped the overseer as soon as I walked in the door, don't need no turncoat, lol.

Clearing out the vault was a blast, literally. The bosses in each section, oh snap! Half a dozen nukes, dozen or so missles and more. Soon much fun.

The high FPS mod that works via F4SE fixes this. It raises the frame rate to like 300+ FPS during loading only so the scripts are ran through faster.

The high FPS mod is basically the only 'must have' mod on PC, and because it's via F4SE dll injection it doesn't remove achievements either or screw up save games.

I have used it on 2 play throughs before with varying success.
I was just making a statement declaring that the bug is pre-patch and has been around since the beginning.

Have you compared this mod to Load Accelerator?
I heard great things about that mod but I have never used that one since I always had FO4 on a HHD (yeah I know, the horror), but the next time around I will give it a shot.

It's honestly pretty wild how massive the DLC's are in this game. I'm finally finishing up Nuka World and I spent more time exploring that area than most stand-alone games. My only disappointment is that it seems like all the gangs are using the same gear with different paint. At least minus things like glasses and hats. I was kinda hoping for some more unique weapons. I've hit the point where I don't pick up anything that isn't legendary and like 1/2 of my arsenal = totally worthless even maxed out.

You can just use RTSS.
  • Turn off V-Sync for the game by setting iPresentInterval to 0.
  • Enable the HotkeyHandler plugin in RTSS by checking the box next to it on the Plugins tab in Setup.
  • Highlight HotkeyHandler.dll and click Setup.
  • Click the text box next to "Toggle framerate limiter" and record the keyboard shortcut you want to use.
  • Add a profile directed to Fallout4.exe where it's installed.
  • Set the framerate limiter to 60 by clicking on the text box, typing 60, and pressing enter.

Now you can use that shortcut to flip between 60 FPS and no cap.

Spoiler:

Pass speech check with Packe Leader Mason for an excellent weapon.

I totally missed out on that one, but (luckily) bought one with the same properties in the Nuka market. It cost pretty much everything I had, but that has to be in contention for the best gun in the game. Even just the normal handmade = elite. With stacking damage? Fuggedaboutit.

Yep with the Commando, Rifleman and Gun Nut perks maxed, the Splattercannon is an unstoppable force.
Better than the Kiloton Radium Rifle or the Overseer's Guardian IMHO.

Even though I did get an Explosive Combat shotgun once late game that was the bees knees.

National Guard Training Yard is where you can get one sometimes.

Wait a minute...

With settlements properly configured with supply chain and vendors, you shouldn't have to scrounge to buy anything. I'm making several thousand caps from each settlement every in-game week and have resources a plenty. That's not using cheats or mods to do it.

And you can make even more if you convert them to Bandit settlements.

The Deliverer is my personal favorite weapon. Not the most powerful but I will use it to stealth clear places until I'm discovered or come up against bosses and tougher legendary enemies.

Apparently I've done absolutely none of that, lol. I found around 15K in caps just playing, but that's it.

Man, that's rough lol

Plenty of places in Nuka World with mediocre gear to scavenge and sell.

In all honesty, I haven't needed money minus that one gun. I bought a piece of shoulder armor super early that boosts 2 stats for 500 caps, but those are the only things I've really needed to buy. I guess there was one vendor selling power armor frames for like 5K, but I already have 7 of those. At this point it would just be a matter of collecting them all. I don't recall using money all that much in my first pass, either. I got so many supplies for bulldozing Vault 81 that I've maxed out every gun I own.

That requires engaging with the settlement system, though.

After doing some random normal quests (and hunted down some bobbleheads), I finally went back and eradicated all the gangs in Nuka World. I claimed the various zones and whatnot first, but I wasn't feeling the settlement takeover stuff. Pretty sure I ended up killing at least 100 people before it was all said and done. I found all but 4 of the various Star Cores, so I looked up where the others were so I could rock the sweet Nuka Quantum power armor. I figure I might try Far Harbor before pursuing the main quest much more. I'm level 50 and I have 80 fusion cores so far, so my plan is to rock power armor for the entire main quest. Just to be a dominant force if for no other reason.

Splattercannon? I forget where I got it but it has the pack paintjob. And yeah it's only thing I use now.

Yup, although it's called the Problem Solver if you get it from him. Same gun otherwise, though. I missed out on getting it from him, but you can buy the Splattercannon from the shop in the Nuka World plaza.
I think the only things holding that gun back = the lack of random ammo laying around + the high upgrade requirements. It's the best gun I have, but my "daily driver" is a .45 radiation rifle that shoots 2 rounds at once. I have like 2500 rounds for that thing and it's a better hip fire weapon.

Not sure if it's supposed to be like this, but I keep getting the same legendary drops over and over. They're nearly always for my left arm which is the one limb I already have a killer legendary for. Never the right arm or right leg, which I have garbage items equipped to. I'd even settle for a left leg item, but nope - always that same left arm, and one of the same 3 (mostly lame) boosts each time. It's been that way for a while, too. There seem to be lots of legendary creatures in Far Harbor, and I've gotten to the point where I don't even want to bother killing them anymore. I can sell 'em for caps, but I don't really have anything to buy, either.

Up for an experiment?

Eliminate a normal enemy or four and grab the normal right leg or arm accessory then go after a Legendary enemy. Do this a half dozen times and see what you find. We'll compare findings to my experience.

Sure, I'll give it a go tonight.

It always pissed me off that in the unmodded game you can’t scrap legendary. You end up with a shit ton on the higher difficulties.
You could always just drop them in a random respawning container out in the world to get rid of them.

I think I have some duplicates, not too many.

I haven't changed armor in quite awhile.

I stick to the pieces that add stats, over most of the others like the lockpick one, less damage from ghouls, etc. +1 INT and + 1 CHR, I got this on 2 pieces, and 2 other pieces are both +2 LCK each. 1 piece has +1 END and +1 STR (I think) and last piece in Mechanists Helmet. The one piece I would also consider is the +3 to all stats when health is below 20%, if I had gotten it before these others. Most pieces are the "15% more damage to mirelurks" etc. type effect, and I don't wear any of those.

I think my favorite weapon effects are Mighty (+25% damage) and Penetrating (ignores 30% of targets armor and resistance). But the effect on Splattercannon (each hit dmg goes up) is best. Modded it to be an automatic weapon, works well. With the right perks target dies fast plus nearby enemies explode into gibs too sometimes.
The other pretty good weapon is Spray n Pray, adds explosive dmg.

Yeah, I've been rocking the same armor for pretty much forever. I have a shoulder with STR +1 and INT+ 1, helmet with CHR +1 and INT +1 (oddly, a combat helmet that was even better than the Mechinist's), and leg with LCK +2. I haven't gotten anything worth a damn for the other leg or arm, though. I've found 0 legendaries for my right leg and only 1 for my right arm...which has something like 10% less damage from insects or something like that. I'd venture that I've found at least 30 legendaries for my left arm and like 1-2 for all the other limbs combined. The only times I really get low in health are with giant explosions, so I'd really like the stat increases vs. protection.

Gun-wise, I'm all about the ones that do 2X damage for critical hits or the ones that fire 2 bullets. I have an assault rifle that goes into slo-mo for 3 seconds every time I aim down the sights. That's another big winner considering it hits like a truck, holds tons of ammo, and gives me all day to headshot things. I generally feel pretty lucky with finding legendary weapons, which makes my conundrum with my right arm and leg armors all the more puzzling.
