Yeah, it seems to be better for the price now. Against the WD SN850X and Samsung drives at $250, its value seemed off to me given the competition in that price bracket. I think it'd make a good drive for a lower price, not the best, but very practical.I feel like this is the best price we've seen a top-speed Gen4 4TB hit.
Pretty much. At least, I think anyway. So pretty much excellent performance with even better efficiency than most drives. The only downside was it didn't offer anything to standout against the competition but at this price it's a no-brainer?
Strangely, I don't think HP really made much of an effort to market this thing. I don't remember ever seeing any reviews for it personally. So pretty much excellent performance with even better efficiency than most drives. Because it's not a true HP product, but a Biwin product with licensed HP branding. They're also the OEM for Acer SSD and DDR modules. https://www.amazon.com/s?me=A37TNC2POOX0TXStrangely, I don't think HP really made much of an effort to market this thing. With that 5yr warranty and the performance it seems like an excellent option.

Same drive under different badges:

Fortunately Biwin is a Taiwanese company, not a fly by night Chinese/Alibaba operation.
Meh. I happens all the time. Power Supplies for example made by Superflower/FSP/Seasonic for EVGA, Corsair etc/ AIO coolers made by Asetek/CoolIT for Corsair, NZXT, Fractal etc. There are only a few original manufacturers, yet the quality/value can still be great if made by a good company. If the product is good and does what it says on the tin for lower price, I have no issue.Just found out these are BiWin drives. Personally, I really find it a turn off when some company just uses another company's brand to do this kind of stuff. Utlimately it's HP's fault for looking for the easy money, but it's obnoxious. I would be genuinely interested if HP was taking the time, energy, and money, to design and engineer drives, but alas, not the case.
You're seeing this from the opposite way. If HP contracted BiWin to produce drives for them, and was controlling marketing, Q/A, etc, I would be ok with it. That's the situation you are describing. This is BiWin purchasing the rights to use the HP name on these drives. If something goes wrong and you contact HP, they'll tell you go to to BiWin. That's the situation I'm not jazzed about and will annoy most consumers.Meh. I happens all the time. I see your point. However, if the hardware was an unknown quantity, I’d agree with you fully. But at a heavily discounted price and with the the fact that BiWin is also using the same product/hardware in other trusted more known/expensive brands via Sabrent etc, I’d be comfortable taking a punt. You're seeing this from the opposite way.
