Cool Video of the Day

So if this could work on clothes, you could go for a swim, and come out with dry clothes

Or decking and a coating on houses, roofs, keep the water off and lasting long.

This stuff has a ton of uses

Others already mentioned it, but I would wear a SERIOUS mask before spraying this sh*t out of a paint gun like shown in that video. Nano particles tend to mess with your lungs due to being too small to be caught by the membranes/mucus that normally keep air-born particulates out of your body. That said, I would still love to try a device coated with it just to see how well the coating holds up.

I just want to coat a motherboard/HDD/and PSU with this, and drop them in a tank full of some liquid to see how long it'll run and how good temps will be :D I hear mineral oil kills those fully submersed mobo's capacitors after a while, maybe they should buy some of this.

i just want to see someone cover them self in it and climb in a pool to see what happens, i dont care if they get cancer.

Seriously I want this on my tent. Like right now. Tell me where to throw my money. I am in no way joking. Someone message me where I can throw my money.

I bought a few of these nanocoatings recently. Most of them are basically nano sized glass particle coatings. You have to be pretty careful when applying them, especially those that use water as a dispersant. The two part one might be less likely to go airborne. There's a rubbermaid plunger that uses this stuff, and it looks like they applied it with paint on the shaft, literally water and "other stuff" slides right off. I'm a bit worried about coating flexible stuff with it since it *must* flake off.

Man I would love it if the owners of my apartment complex cover all the exterior walls with this stuff to prevent gangbangers from tagging the walls or use it as their murals.

first problem would be they wouldn't mix and second is if they did it wouldn't stick to the car body.

Possibly, however it does seem to spray on everything no problem, recall this is simply some molecules ("nanoparticles") that exhibit extreme hydrophobic qualities. Paint don't stick to a car because the water grabs onto it. Now depending upon how they work, perhaps requiring some catalyst to actually turn hydrophobic, or some set period of time, you might not get more than one coat of paint on the car but hey who cares :D

So. Many. Uses. Really this wowed me. Colour me impressed.
Pranks, industrial, porn industry!
In all seriousness I hope it's non toxic and environmentally friendly 'cause this stuff is magic.

This, I will post pictures of, if my penis falls off after using this stuff on my favorite masterB toy.

I wonder how it would work to reduce drag on boats.

You want your boat to be IN the water not on top of it. This stuff would make your boat pop out of the water the second you launch it - and it would just roll on the surface and escape from you. :p

I'm gonna send this link to the Seahawks headquarters. Hopefully it will make them harder to tackle than a greased pig.

I'd like to see a food safe version that I can spray on my pans. and can be used on the inside ketchup bottles.

I wonder how it would work to reduce drag on boats.

There is something for food containers, ketchup was used in the demo. I think it came out of MIT's tinkering dept.

Found it! http://www.fastcoexist.com/1679878/mits-freaky-non-stick-coating-keeps-ketchup-flowing

i want this sprayed on every cheeseburger wrapper! Do you know how much cheese is lost every time! Finally, I get to eat ALL the cheese I paid for! WOOT!

and those damned plastic nacho containers with the ridges. No more lost toppings!

It took 3 pages for someone to post this?? unbelievable :D:D

This is [H] for gods sake

I want to coat my entire car in this stuff, my clothes, my tools, my cell phone...everything!

for a goof you could coat a sham-wow with this and then stand back and watch the frustration

I'd pay good money to have my windshield coated in this. I'm surprised Rain-X isn't on top of this already, or are these materials prohibitively expensive and not ready for the consumer market?

No. It's that:

  1. The stuff dries translucent. So it's not something you want to put on a windshield.
  2. It's solvent based. So windshield washer fluid will ruin it.
  3. Various things like road salt will abrade it away as well.
  4. You'd probably still need the windshield wipers, and they'd abrade it away too.

How durable is it? How long does it last?

If this can be used on clothing (not just outwear) these guys could make a killing.

No. If you read the info on the site, it says detergent will wash it off. Maybe not in the first wash. But it'll start breaking down the coating.

I wonder how it would work to reduce drag on boats.

Quite well for a short period of time. But the high speed water still hitting the surface would erode the coating in fairly short order.

I think I am going to order some for my bikes... not having to wash as much mud off would be well worth $150... hell I have spent more than that for less useful biking accessories.

They failed to realize the ultimate purpose for this coating. Toilets that never need cleaning. :D

Great idea! I would use it on my ATV though.

No more blood soaked swords!

Found a different video that basically says this coating will not stand up to:

Cleaning Products
High pressure water
Excessive Skin contact
Abrasion

Also do not stare at the coating or insult the coating. Both of these things will also reduce its effectiveness.
You guys just gave me an idea...

Re-apply after each and every stab wound. Clean knife all the time.

And, coat a skin tight suit and I won't have any blood on me.

Thanks guys! Be right back, got some business to deal with. ;);)

So when you clean it, it washes off. That makes for a very expensive temporary coating.
