A few years ago I snagged one of the Yamakasi Q270's. The less-than-TN response time has never been a problem for me. I never even adjusted anything other than brightness. It just looked great as-is. I love it, but lately I've been looking to replace it with something else due to its lack of inputs/scaler and its rickety VESA mount.
I'd be using it for a little of everything: Watching videos, web browsing/office work, programming, gaming (mostly Minecraft and Starcraft II).
I noticed the 32-inch HP ENVY is on sale for $400. It's a little more than I wanted to spend, but looks like a pretty nice deal for a QHD monitor of that size, especially since most of the reviews I've seen are positive. I was tempted to snag one, but I wondered how picture quality would compare. I'm not really a monitor connoisseur, but since I took the plunge and got a Korean IPS panel, I swore never to return to TN again. (Whites are so white now!) So I'm wondering how the ENVY's AMVA+ panel fares in comparison to the various 27" IPS panels that have been so great?
Barring that, I'm also wondering about which of the multi-input 27" IPS monitors have good, secure VESA mounts? In addition to having to take apart the monitor to use the VESA mounting holes, the Q270's mounting holes aren't particularly sturdy; they're just holes in the back piece of plastic housing. Lightly tapping the monitor causes it to wobble for several seconds, and I always worry that one of these days an earthquake will strike, crack apart the back piece of plastic and send my lovely panel crashing to its doom. Do any of the Korean IPS's have solid mounting holes that securely attach to the inner frame of the monitor or are they all pretty much like the Q270?
