I am currently looking for a new lcd monitor. I will be using it alot for games and video like watching movies so it needs to look great. Im not sure if I should make the switch to widescreen or not. Like if I watch a video that isnt widscreen will I have bars on the sides? I have a 19 inch monitor now and was thinking about getting a 20 inch this time but Im not sure. I would like to keep the price below $350. If anyone has some good ideas let me know and thanks for the help.

my 0.2, get widescreen. Youll thank me later

off topic, but 0.2 = 20 cents. you really think "get widescreen" is worth 10 times as much as everyone else's advice? :p

just playin. we now return you to your scheduled programming

go here and check out:

http://tvcalculator.com/

20" wide has a smaller image area than your 19" 5:4 now.

19"= Image area: 176.15 sq. in.
20"wide= Image area: 170.91 sq. in.

go for 22", cost $300+- only.

Here's my .02...spend some time browsing this forum to get some ideas, narrow the search down to few models, read some off-site reviews of the ones that interest you...THEN come back here and ask some questions. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but you'll find much more help and opinions here if you have some specific makes and models in mind. ;)

Well I was looking at these monitors.

Im not sure why everyone thinks the dell is so good because everyone seems to either have one of those or some other dell model. I am worried about the 16 ms pixel response time. I am an avid gamer and 16 ms..... isnt that really slow and wont that cause alot of ghosting. I have never used a widscreen monitor before but im willing to try it out. I must have excellent performance in games and video also. Should I get one of these or something else?

Out of those four I would honestly get the Dell 2007FPW. I just took delivery of one this past tuesday and it really does have more features and style than others in it's price range (especially with coupons)...and also mine had none of the issues that you hear about all the time. Of course I'm not keeping mine (a friend is going to buy it) because I can't stand the anti-glare screen coating but it's no worse than any others...and if you aren't bothered by it then it won't be an issue. Just another .02 from me. :)
