I haven't got the game, but I just saw someone on another forum post that disabling Steam Community In Game cures the lag problemConsidering it works fine with Steam offline... hmm... maybe, just maybe... it's a Steam issue? Yeah? Ever thought of that?
Of course not! Steam is infallible, Valve is perfect! It must be Treyarch's fault

How would Steam be the problem? If there are dedicated servers why would Steam get involved? I guess it would as far as community features and buddy lists and groups and what not but I don't see how it could cause laggy games.
Then again I'm kind of a Steam n00b so iono.
I've found that steam can make games buggy as hell, just hosting the game client side. Granted there are dedicated servers this time so who knows, could be a complete cluster fuck of issues, i just wouldn't be surprised if Steam has something to do with it.
Lets look at a possilbe cluster fuck issue:
-- Dedicated servers not quite ready? Still being worked on while live maybe? They fucked up?
-- Steam clinet bugging out hosting the game client side?
-- The game is maybe more multi-core efficient?
-- The game still being DX9 can still push detail in masses and work PC's and VRAM, could be that some of the people are underestimating the power needed?
-- The amount of people downloading/preloading the game will be insane hitting steam networks?
-- CoD:BO isn't ready in genreal and Treyarch fucked up?
Who knows! Hopefully (doubtful) somebody will own up to a screw up and it'll be fixed in a day or two.
Apparently it's fine on console, my mate is still playing now when he got it 5pm last night and keeps taunting me.

Are you surprised?
I'm sure there's plenty of people who are playing and enjoying the game. All you're seeing is the people who are having issues post others are busy playing.
If people with Dualcore CPU's are reporting 100% CPU usage, maybe it's time to pick-up a quad.
All in all, I'm picking it up Wed when I get paid and I'm sure there will be a patch to fix any zero day issues.

Desi@steamforums said:POSSIBLE FIX
1) Run Steam in Offline mode.
2) Start Black Ops.
3) End the steam.exe process.
I can play Crysis with all but 4 settings maxed out with a dual core and it doesn't hit 100% usage. Are you saying Back Ops looks better than Crysis ? Because if it runs worse it should look better IMO.
Not getting it just because it is an OLD game. Why pay $50 for old tech and gameplay?
No big surprise but how is this any different than lets say another big shooter title.
BFBC2 had a shit ton of issues day one , it crashed to the desktop every 5-10 mins for me like clock work. The lag was horrible and you couldn't even get a good reading on your ping , I was constantly disconnected every 20-25 mins .. the game was vastly unplayable and the official forums were LOADED I mean thousands of pages in the first week with issues of this exact nature. It took around 4-5 patches to make it playable for me and likely tons of other people.
You can flip out like a child or wait patiently for a patch to fix the one PRIMARY issue which is likely a steam issue based on the current half ass solutions people are using.
It's more of an issue because most other publishers aren't asking you to sell blood in order to pay for their generic pap. Most of it it is priced appropriately, instead of running you 10-15 moneys more for something that's arguably worse than the norm, rather than better.
CoD games don't work like that. They stay overpriced for years.
Also if you can't contain your urge to play this game I'm sure most of you own a console (360 , PS3) so just go out and rent it while you wait a few days for a patch .. its only 9 bucks to rent it at Blockbuster.
Are you surprised?
Funny how that works. Pay the media to put out positive reviews and you get positive reviews. It's quite a system.game is getting mostly good to excellent reviews...
Was going to post almost exactly the same thingHoly sheeeit $9 for a rental? No wonder Blockbuster is going out of business.
Hell, no. Glad I didn't preorder.
This series is the "Madden football" of shooters with all that descriptive entails.
Hmmmm.... I paid $29.99 for MWF2 about 4 months ago (not sure of exactly when). I am not sure what you guys are talking about. Usually games go on sale about 3 months after they are released if not sooner.
$30 is my max on games and I got both MWF2 and BFBC2 for that price on Steam (in the US).
The only game I might consider paying much for is HL3, and $50 is the max on that one. $60 is outrageous!!!
Like someone else said, BFBC2 had a horrible launch and now people swear by that game over MW2. As long as they fix the issues quickly (it took BFBC2 far too long IMO), the game will be just fine.
So I take it for at least the PC part this game will bomb out??
Black OPs with it's low FoV, worthless to me.
