Areca users: capacity expansion question

I wonder if the latest version of gparted runs on top of a new enough kernel to see my Areca card? That would be easiest and most reliable probably. Just have to find my kb/mouse/vga cable.

I'm not an areca user, I'm a 3ware user...but I had the same question awhile back. 3ware had special utilities to make sure all the cylinders lined up properly on the new sized disks and had a procedure for doing the task.

I didn't end up doing it, but they were very confident in their procedure. If areca is anywhere as good as 3ware, give them a call and I'm sure they'll lend some advice.

Thanks for this thread, I just used this undocumented feature to turn my 2x1TB RAID1 into a 3x2TB RAID5.

Of course it would have been faster to just reformat since the rebuilds and expands took a few days, but where is the fun in that?

I am also glad that even my old 1160 supports 4TB drives with no problems so far.
