256mb GeForce FX vs 128mb GeForce 6800nu

A friend of mine wants to upgrade from a GeForce4-mx to a newer nvidia based video card so he can play doom3. His budget maximum is 300 dollars and I suggested that he get a 6800nu or a geforce fx with 256mb of ram. Which would be better for playing doom3? a 256mb geforce fx or a 128mb 6800nu?

6800 hands down. Don't even consider an FX card with a 300 dollar budget...

Plus as the regular 6800's are around 270 or so for eVGA or similar, he'll have cash leftover for other goodies. Win-win situation.

yup, 6800nu...with my setup (see sig) at 1280x1024 High Quality I get 64 FPS and at 1024x768 High Quality I get 79 FPS.

Great card and the game looks so bitchin' on it
