I have an old e6300 system with a 7300 GS. This set up worked fine @ 1280x1024 (19 inch monitor) but struggles with a 23 inch 1080p monitor.

I've been thinking of upgrading to 2500k/h67 or z68 to improve the graphics capabilities and reduce power usage.

How are the built in graphics for 2500K for 2D (basically bliting) and with xorg in general. Will it do a significantly better job than the 7300 gs ?

the integrated HD3000 on the 2500k will perform about the same or a bit better than your 7300gs in regards to 2D stuff, and it will use much less power.

So if it only performs about the same level then it will not really address the poor performance of the 7300 @ 1080p ?

no, the massive increase in CPU will help as well. what i was refering to is the 7300 in your 2500k would perform about as well as the onboard but with additional power and heat.

you won't have any trouble with 1080p with either device on a 2500k.

Yea. The e6300 is starting to show its age. Hum. I have a spare e8400; maybe that would do the trick.

it's worth a shot before you go and spend $300 on a new cpu/mobo combo. you won't regret the sandy bridge though, excellent platform - love mine.

The HD3000 is actually quite capable and I'm pretty sure it's much faster than your 7300GS
