Nintendo will be showcasing several unreleased Wii U games next month at Best Buy stores. This is a new move for Nintendo, who usually gives fans a chance to experience new games only at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, opted for the Best Buy alternative this year. Details are not solid yet on which stores and games will be offered.

The games will be on display at approximately 100 Best Buy stores in the U.S. and Canada during the week of E3, which kicks off on June 11 in Los Angeles.

thats exactly what it says.....?
the games that are supposed to be shown at e3, instead will be shown at your local best buy.

Intresting move. I dont know about this yet. I hate best buy. There isnt one near by anyway.

Not sure if this is a good move or shows that Nintendo is out of touch with current gamers or stuck in 1999, when Best Buy was better.

Best Buy is the last place I'd go for gaming these days.

Sigh.

Best Buy finally does something cool for gamers, and all I see is snide remarks from you guys. Personally I want to see Best Buy improve, as more competition is only a good thing for us consumers.

I think the real question is, are they going to actually make room for a dozen or more setups so you don't have a huge mass of nerds crowding around some asshole kid playing poorly for an hour like you do at Best Buy currently. :p

I wonder how much Best Buy ponied up to get Nintendo to do this.

More like how much did Nintendo pony up. In case you havent noticed its a dead platform with the major developers no longer interested

At least Nintendo and Best Buy are doing something good for gamers, and gaming in general. E3, much like CES, has been pretty pointless for years now. It's a press event, so all you're going to do is get trailers and videos of the youtube "press" playing some games. Instead of relying on a tradeshow that still pretends it's 1995 and the only media that the videogame industry has is print and television, they found a way to actually get some of this stuff in the hands of gamers.

Obviously the benefit to best buy is getting people in the door. But it's not like nintendo was going to lease out spaces across the country. A deal like this would have been struck with one retailer or another. If other companies follow suit, it'd be a nice change from relying on video game "journalists" at E3.

Everyone who thinks WiiU is doing horribly should check out this video of upcoming WiiU releases. Definitely made me excited about the consoles future. LINKY

They had YEARS of doing nothing and watching the Wii languish, im supposed to believe NOW they are going to be competent and competitive? I hate Nintendo's hubris.

What other competition? Circuit City is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head (Unless you're lucky enough to have a Fry's near by) that comes close to what Best Buy does as far as a business model, and Circuit City is long gone.

Best Buy didn't do "shit" for gamers. Nintendo approached them because they decided against doing an E3 event (which is dumb considering the weak support of their new console) and Best Buy got lucky enough to be approached.

However I've always personally thought we should be the ones to test drive a game instead of the biased gaming media. Having your customers give impressions on a game is often more reliable than some journalist that's been told to make the game sound good or that company will pull ad support from their web site (hello Gamespot , IGN.. etc..). So this is a positive move I believe.

Nintendo should have done an E3 event and this as well together , that would have rocked. For the first time we would not only hear about the games being shown but we could actually test drive them across the country.

I haven't stepped foot in a Best Buy in ages. Many people I know, even the non-geeks, haven't either. A lot of people shop online or at Walmart for simple things. Gaming? Best Buy isn't who I think of. Interesting approach, but Best Buy wouldn't have been my first guess for this sort of thing. Not a huge gaming following. Even Walmart has a greater gaming consumer base.

Best Buy needs to improve. I haven't been there in years because they haven't improved. They still overcharge, under deliver with customer service, and offer nothing more than the little competition they do have. This Nintendo marketing stunt won't bring me in, either. Best Buy used to be awesome, in the late 90's/early 00's. Then, as with many others, the online shopping revolution took over. They still have most of their old policies and practices still in place. Their return policy isn't as good as others. They are just out of date when it comes to the competition.

Seeing some computer nerd stuck in appliances and some appliance nerd (well... he knows more than others) in computers shows a lack of management intelligence. Why would they do something like that? It happens at several different stores that I know of, and nearly happened to me (Christmas season, 2nd job) - computer geek put into the cell phone booth....

Was in Fry's Electronics today and there was a Wii U just sitting there being unplayed. Mario, Luigi and Yoshi jumping around on the screen. I remember, Mario, Luigi and Yoshi from 23 years ago and the graphics haven't changed much.

Get something new, Nintendo. The Wii U and Mario ain't it.

I heard a suggestion for something like the new Power Glove, but like the PlayStation move. Now that would be rad. People liked the interactivity of the Wii - now just expand on it with better graphics, features (i.e. online) and implementations. Your current ideas are stale.

This might work if they pushed out upgrade kits to ALL of their demo units and not just a couple hundred stores. They are sitting on billions of dollars, invest some of that money in more development teams and getting the said upgrade kit out to all kiosks.

They should throw 25 million to a few major third party developers to help garner support. Lift liscencing fees, etc.
