The translation of this page is rough but, from what I can gather, two developers were arrested and charged with espionage for taking pictures and video of military facilities in Greece.

On charges of espionage arrested two Czechs, aged 28 and 33, at noon Sunday at the Platy Lemnos by officers of AT Myrina. In testing conducted on the camcorder and camera that were with them, were videotaped and photographed camps and other military facilities on the island.

They should be arrested for making game engines that get progressively slower as you play. It's criminal!

The Greeks are notoriously sensitive about their military. They really fear the Turks.

Maybe they should have developed a stealth intelligence gathering game instead.

Greece was enslaved for 400 years by the Ottoman Empire, which is now Turkey. I'd say their sensitivity is justified.

...So was a third of Europe, all of the Middle East, parts of Africa...Both countries are part of NATO and realistically speaking nothing beyond minor skirmishes would occur. Fear-mongering at it's finest. It would be like Iraq talking shit to us...oh wait, been there done that.

Taking pictures of ANY country's military in secure areas is likely to introduce you to a whole new world of pain (try doing it in Russia, the USA, or China and see what happens :) ) ... if you are serious about the research ask for permission ... if denied, maybe a trip to the library for a copy of Jane's Military books is in order ;)

Well said.

I guess it's true, you can't fix stupid. Why not just use some Google street view pics and fill in the blanks?

Off by about a few hundred years  That was the Persians...like kitty. Meow. Not the Turks.

Do I look like i drink from a saucer :D

These guys are idiots. Reading a different link they were actually warned on their website not to go there for this very reason and did it anyway. Not to bright.

Ottoman Turks come to Asia Minor (The area now known as Turkey)

The Ottoman Turks were nowhere near Asia Minor during 480B.C as the 1st PERSIAN Empire was there.

^^ These ones (Persians) are related to the Aryans not the Turkmens...

According to international treaties, this area is demilitarized. So these guys were arrested for taking scenic pictures in a demilled zone for reference material for a game, and then Greek authorities charge them with espionage. Am I the only one that sees this as a gross overreaction?

It's a demilitarized zone? Then how can you commit espionage on that area then? LOL

WTF Greece.

Yep, demilled. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Lausanne

These guys were out derping around in the country. They took pictures of rural roads around Lemnos and the Greeks flipped shit because they were "czechan spies!!! OMG!!!".

It really would be hilarious if Greece didn't just violate these dudes' freedoms in a huge way.

Except that treaty is no longer valid ... it was replaced by the Montreux Treaty ( http://www2.mfa.gr/www.mfa.gr/en-us...ish+claims/military+status+of+aegean+islands/ ) in 1936 and Greece was allowed to Militarise Limnos ... now whether the Arma 3 guys were spying is a valid question but if they went into a controlled military area without permission (especially after being warned not to enter) then they are SOL ;)

From news reports in Greece, they didn't enter any military perimeter. They just had pics of roads and intersections around the island as well as some pictures taken from afar of some of some of their antiquated military buildings. All areas that they took pictures of are publicly accessible.
