I've seen a couple scattered comments here but just wanted to see if any owners cared to comment on the build quality and performance. Especially the scroll wheel and buttons. I'm interested in the white version particularly. Also there web site doesn't seem to have a link for tech support/questions now, it did a few days ago.

    Thanks!

I'm also interested, thinking of getting the EC2 myself... I do hear that many of the mice do have the scroll wheel 'bug' though.. Supposedly better build quality over the Deathadder, but I don't know.

I'll answer my own question. Just got the EC1 White not ten minutes ago, via Amazon/UPS and I just got back from dropping it off at the UPS Store on it's way back to Amazon for a refund.

The Short and short of it:

    Pros.........Very Comfortable
    Tracks well
Cons........ Scroll wheel doesn't register the first couple clicks which is a deal killer for me
Build quality is fair at best with very sloppy, loose left/right clicks, fit and finish
    poor.

To be honest if the mouse was better built with nice even, tight clicks and no scroll problems I would have kept it.

Have you used the Deathadder before? How would the EC1 compare to that in terms of comfort?

That's too bad.. so much for considering this mouse. Maybe I'll pickup a Xai and see how I like it.

I have used the Deathadder 3500 and as far as build quality goes the Deathadder is miles above the Zowie they are not even in the same league. It's a shame though because the EC1 is a more comfortable mouse at least for me and I really don't need more than 2000dpi, also the plug and play no driver of the the EC1 is a plus. So unless you are the type that just grabs a mouse and doesn't pay attention to the finer points The Deathadder is overall a much better buy.

I'd also like to add and to the credit of Zowie I was able to get in contact with Danny Ramkvist, Zowie Marketing Manager, to explain the problems with the EC1 and they are arranging for me to get a problem free EC1. So I thought it fair to mention this as they do seem to be concerned with customers getting a good product.

    That's interesting to know..

I'm also curious since you have the EC1, how would think the EC2 would be (being a little smaller), would it be a good choice as well for a claw grip, or do you think the EC1 would still be the better choice?

Let us know if it actually works out or not with Zowie. A while back I had my Nova Slider x600 and I've made contact with the president of the company, he told me that he would be sending a replacement, but after 7 or 8 emails (3 or more of them telling my address because he somehow NEVER gets those ones of course) I've given up all hope on them, they just wasted my time telling me I never gave them an address to ship the mouse to and ignore every email that I sent them with that information inside...

The EC1 is for all practical purposes identical in size to the Deathadder and a good palm gripper. It's actually bigger than I expected so I think you'd be safe with an EC2 for a claw grip and you can probably palm it also. Yes and if Zowie comes through with a good EC1 I may try an EC2 myself.

Just want to follow up on the Zowie's. I did some more checking and it seems that Zowie has fixed the scroll wheel bug with the latest batch of EC1 Blacks out there. The trick is how do you know what batch your going to get ? I decided to give this one more shot and so I checked Newegg. It seems without a doubt that the EC1 Black is by far the most popular and best selling as I noticed a couple weeks ago that Newegg was 'Out of Stock' and before that time the Zowie's were a 'Limited Quantity' item only available from there California warehouse. Anyway Newegg now has the EC1 Black re-stocked and it's shipping from thier other warehouses across the country, I know this because anything I buy from Newegg I ckeck to see where it's shipping from to see how quick I can get it. Long story short I took a shot and ordered one thinking it had to be a 'New Batch' and I got it today. Well let me tell you that my gamble payed off in spades! This EC1 Black is damn near perfect! nothing like the first EC1 White I got. The fit and finish is excellent with nice, tight short travel buttons, excellent jitter free tracking and best of all the scroll bug is fixed. So if you guys were on the fence and wanted to try one get an EC1 Black from Newegg. I hope the rest of the models will update also as I would like to get an EC2 also.

Well I just got my EC2, no scroll wheel bug or anything, overall pretty pleased with it, but can you tell me if the sides of your EC1 'creak'. It feels like mine sink in whenever I squeeze the mouse (which I do a lot with a claw grip), but I've never noticed this on any other mouse even the cheap ones...

Do you have the EC2 White? It creaks cause the entire thing is solid, no rubber to hinder vibrations.

No I have the EC2 black, but the rubber coating is just one the outside and it's nothing that would hinder vibrations or anything. The issue with mine is that it feels as if the right side sinks in a bit and creaks when it does, I've never noticed this on my Deathadder, IE 3.0 or anything...

hmm... mine doesn't do that. I have both the EC2 white & black, and only my white creaks.

Just got a black EC1 cheap. Here are my thoughts on it:

    Pros
    Light
    Fits in the hand snugly
    No software required
Superb gliding due to large feet. Glides better than my hyperglide G5
    Good thumb+pinky grip for lifting
Very little movement after lifting and repositioning
    Tracking at speed is good

    Cons
Loose mouse buttons. Good click but the rattle is starting to annoy me. The side buttons also have a slight click before they actually click.
Line prediction - minimal but does exist and makes small movement at medium to high sensitivity erratic and inaccurate
Scroll wheel is broken (known problem I see). Scrolling up causes scroll down to not register on the first scroll, every time.
Smooth finish on left/right side is too slippery. Thumb begins to sweat in less than 5 minutes making it unpleasant to hold

    Conclusion:
I love the shape, feet and weight. In these areas the Zowie EC1 is the best mouse I've used to date.

It's a shame about the wheel, buttons, prediction and sweaty thumb. Ah well, onto the next.

Ended up picking up a black EC2.. been using it today. Ordered from Amazon.

I've got pretty small hands, and I surprisingly almost find the thing too small (coming from a Dell Tactx and previously G9 no less). I'm curious just how much bigger the EC1 is in comparison and may end up getting one.

Tracking is superb, and I can confirm there is no problem with clicking or the mouse wheel on this one. Incredibly smooth glide on my Func 1030 as well.

Kinda wish there had either been a 800 dpi level coded in, rather than just the 500, 1000, 2000.. but other than that small grip I'm pleased.

I'm thinking about trying my first gaming mouse, and the Zowie EC1 black is in the running.

Some things I like about it-

Plug and play. No drivers or software to configure.
1000Hz USB report rate right out of the box.
    Simple design. I don't need 15 buttons.
    It's wired.
    Designed by a pro gamer.

    Some stuff about me-

I'm right handed, have fairly large hands, and use a claw grip. So how is the Zowie?

Any others I should look at? I am also considering the MX518 and the Razer Death Adder.

    Thanks.

What the heck, I ordered one. Zowie EC1 Black. Did rush shipping as I am eager to finally try out a real gaming mouse. I've pretty much been a $20 / whatever came with the PC mouse user up to this point.

Will let you know how it goes.

OK, the Zowie EC1 showed up last night. Sure enough, it's plug n play. 1000Hz USB report rate... I'm looking for a way to verify that within Win7. Fits my somewhat large hands just fine. Comfortable and light. Two huge slider pads underneath. Works great with a claw grip

DPI is 500/1000/2000. The switch is on the bottom, so if you like to switch DPI on the fly, this is not the mouse for you. I've never had a mouse that was adjustable, so this is no big deal to me. To me 500 is way too slow, 1000 feels good / normal, and 2000 feels really slick and impressive. I just went from 1152x864 on a 19" to 1920x1080 on a new 24", and 2000 is a great way to quickly navigate all that real estate. I played an hour of Torchlight at 2000 last night and liked the way things felt.

The other big deal about this mouse is it's super-low 1.5 mm lift-off distance. Not sure if that matters to me or not. Clicks are fine and the wheel feels smooth.

Here's my old mouse. Had it three to five years and liked it. Just a $20 mouse, and about as basic as it gets-

Just got my EF1 Pro. Seem to have one of the better versions since I have none of the issues reported. The plastic don´t appear to cave in. The scroll wheel have never acted up so far and the buttons appear identical. I haven´t tried the side buttons yet though. I love how the scroll wheel feels to operate no the desktop really solid.

The glide is something insane though. I have a hotas setup for my cockpit that I have the mouse on and unless it´s 100 % flat the mouse will drop off to the floor by itself. There is no sense of friction whatsoever incredibly smooth. If this is good or to much is yet to see. Always takes time to get used to a new mouse. Tracking appear to be really good though and being so similar to Intellimouse 3.0 I doubt I will get issues with the fit.

Little update after owning the EC1 for about a month. Guess my mousepad is on the small side-
8" wide by 6.5." At 2000 DPI I can travel all the way from left to right on my 24" 1080p monitor without much mouse movement. It's pretty slick, and now that I'm used to it, 2000 DPI mode is all I use.

Quite happy with the feel, glide, clicks, scroll wheel, and overall quality.

I think I read this in one of the online reviews, but it's true- the box is the most basic thing I've ever seen. It's gray and there is some writing. This mouse would not have grabbed my attention on the shelf at the store. This is a non-issue for me, since I always do plenty of research before buying something, but for in-store sales, Zowie might want to spice it up a little. I'm not saying to go all XTREME GAMRZ style on it, but maybe a little bit of flair would be nice. :)

Could someone tell me if ZOWIE EC1 tracking is like a DA tracking? i play with a very low sense, and i would know if with a zowie ec1 i have the same track experience in GAME as a DA.. i want zowie because of the 1.5mm LIFT.. im gonna crazy for this story.. hoping ec1 ends all my problems..

I own the EC2 which has the same sensor.. It is not like DA tracking, and by that I mean that the lift of distance changes the feel a bit. It's easier to switch from the DA to the EC, but the other way around was just weird since I never picked up my DA enough. The only downside (if you can even call it that because I don't notice it) is that the EC has prediction. That's never stopped me from hitting great shots in Quake and should not stop you from liking this mouse. If I'm not mistaken is has the same or newer sensor from the MX518, so I seriously doubt you can move this mouse quit enough to encounter tracking errors or acceleration

I find the EC is also a lot lighter and has a better feel, even the buttons (especially side) or scroll wheel have a much more quality feel. I definitely recommend it and probably the EC1 over the EC2, but you cannot go wrong with either.

I've just ordered one ec2 black along with a second zowie g-tf ( just in case they go out of business or anything, their product line is much less mainstream compared to logitech or even razer ) , their online shop ships so fast to greece, i ordered a zowie g-tf last friday and i just got it on tuesday !!!! I know the thread subject is about the EC series but lemme tell you, this mousepad is PERFECT :DDDD I have around 18 mousepads in my room ( tried around 30 total during the last 7 years ) and 9 mice ( don't give me that look, I just like to experiment a bit :p ) , currently using it with an explorer 3.0 and it's pure sex, my hands are kinda small tho so i think zowie ec2 will be an even better fit plus, 500hz out of the box is just so awesome, upping your polling rate in win7 64bit is royal a pain in the ass, even by using this easy to follow guide http://www.+++++.com/news/15043-how-to-increase-usb-sample-rate-in-windows-vista-7-a.html

I could not care less for prediction/angle snapping, I never had trouble switching back and forth between logitech mx mice and microsoft intelli ones, their products are truly pieces of innovation, they invented a brand new type of clothpad which is water proof, rough/ "sandy" textured and with a very fast and controllable glide plus they made a excellent succesor of the good old IE 3.0, I'm sure that both deathadder and habu can't hold a candle to it :D

Deathadder has prediction?? there is a way to put off prediction on EC1? i have had more and less 15 mouse, and 20 pads.. i want to solve all my problem :( i hope in ec1 (a DA without LIFT).. but this story of prediction make me unsure...

The Deathadder does not have prediction, but prediction is seriously overrated anyhow, I have no issues with it even knowing it's there. If I hadn't known it was a fact the mouse had prediction I would have never guessed, I can go into paint and draw straight lines, but that has never caused any angle-snapping or whatever people over hype like Global Warming...

Buy the mouse and thank me when you get it! :)

Maybe this type of prediction is actually beneficial for your shooting accuracy after all, take a look at raziel who was using a good old mx310 on an icemat while making these videos.

The one thing I disliked about Zowie was before this mouse was released, they promised it would have acceleration. Then they posted what you see above, however that is not at all true. Either way don't worrier about it, it won't affect you there are plenty of pro gamers out there who play with prediction and do not have any issues...

    thx to all for answers!

So, in these days i will buy a zowie EC1 (i dont buy an EC2 because i have understood that it is smaller than EC1, and EC1 is big as my -perfect- Deathadder). Im not stupid thinking that this new mouse will be a Deathadder without LIFT??

Ok so here's a quick objective review

    PROS

+ tracking at 500/1000dpi is FLAWLESS for low sense players, there's no way you can make it skip ingame

+ rubber coating on top feels really nice

+ shape is pretty good for ppl who think that explorer 3.0/deathadder is way too big

+ wheel feels really nice, not that i use to change weapons ingame, only nubs do that or ppl who don't play with WASD

+ nice cord, very similar to new IME 3.0

+ 1000hz out of the box, you can make it go 500hz which is much better imo because 1000hz causes too much of a cpu load and it's usually not as consistent as 500hz, all you have to do is keep mouse5 pressed while pluging in the plug to the usb wait for the LED to go from blue to red and then let to go, bam instant 500hz :D

    CONS

    - prediction, not that it really bothered me personally

    - GLIDE, for some reason my 1.1 and 3.0 feel much better on top of the G-TF compared to this mouse, i don't know why, those two huge mouse feet were supposed to give a pretty fast and consistent glide

    - glossy sides, not really that annoying but for the price, it should feature rubber sides, even mx300 and mx500 had them back in the day, ffs :S

    - buttons / wheel felt really shitty out of the box, the mouse was even doing double clicks on it's own but after 2-3 days of usage it got better.

glide/friction was the main factor i let this mouse go and went back to my trusty 1.1, i could still pull off some pretty good skeets in l4d2 but generally speaking aiming just feels more natural/easier with the 1.1 mainly, due to the smoother glide. Such a shame really, anyway gotta order a 1.1 champagne now :D

SoFGR- I didn't know you could turn the USB polling rate down to 500, so I might try that.

With it running at 1000, would I be able to see it hitting the CPU with resource monitor or something? Though I should have plenty of horsepower with my i7 930...

yes you can see some cpu usage spikes at the resource manager graph everytime you do so long fast motions, it's just not worth it imo, if you check mouserate.exe you'll also see than you don't exactly get 1000hz but fluctuations between 750 and up.

You may also encounter problems if you play games with direct input and low size buffers http://razerblueprints.net/index.ph...m_smf/Itemid,99/topic,6799.msg59963/#msg59963

Another note, on my gaming pc i couldn't get 500hz stable by doing the mouse5 trick, i got 499-498 and then a huge spike :S don't really know why this was happening, so everytime i tried out this mouse i had to set to 500hz myself with the hifusbf utility, but when i tested it on my old computer it was 500hz right of the box :S :S

Any other Zowie owners out there want to chime in?

I am still happy with mine, but I kind of get the impression that this one is not taking off. Only 20 reviews at New Egg. At least it's at 5 out of 5 eggs though.

    Upgrade path: MX500 -> MX518 -> EC1.

it's pretty solid from what I can see so far. I've played a bunch of games from CS 1.6/Source, Brink, Monday Night Combat, etc.

only con is that I went with this and really wanted another MX500.

but I play on 1000 dpi and it has yet to disappoint me.
