YouTube CEO Says Facebook "Should Get Back to Baby Pictures"

Facebook has been trying to expand it's video streaming, edging in to YouTube's market. In an interview during Recode's Code Media conference yesterday, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki was pressed about whether or not she worries about increased competition from Facebook. She said "you always have to take your competitors seriously," but then added "I mean, I think they should focus on what they're focused on, I think they should get back to baby pictures and sharing."

You can watch the full interview here, the interview starts at 4:10, the Facebook question comes at 30:30, and the cringe runs the full length.

You win many internets if you can make it through the entire interview. In my opinion the interviewer was terrible, and this proved how unqualified Wojcicki is for the position at YouTube. She did create a channel to connect and relate to content creators where she would do Q&A and make frequent videos. She has uploaded two, four months ago.

Facebook is slowly fading away and once anyone 30+ stops using it it's done for. 25 and under seem to not use it at all and if they can't capture that crowd their future is doomed.

Facebook, now as a public company, has the impossible task of attempting to create revenue growth in a market where there is little room to grow and a poor history of long term success.

Facebook should have stayed private, and just stuck with what it did best.

It never ceases to amaze me how often CEOs come across as completely clueless about the industry in which their company operates.

I can only assume they're just bad at interviews.

There's a reason they have a PR department. That being said, I can't argue with your thoughts after listening to people like Marissa Mayer.

Watched about half of the video and couldn't take it anymore. The interviewer sucked and the YouTube CEO seems clueless. It's beyond cringeworthy.

Man, at first I skipped the facebook part of it, and I read it like YouTube needs to get back to baby pictures.
I guess FaceBook will say YouTube needs to get back to only cat videos.. but with the new guidelines and revenue tricks, soon that would be the only thing allowed anyway.

There isn't a lol big enough. Youtube needs to back the fuck away, let creators create and stop pushing against and censoring opposing views to their lefty sjw echo chamber bullshit.

Wonder if this quote will be added to the 'Famous Last Words' list. Seriously, a comment like that means to me that she's seriously underestimating a potential competitor.

What did YouTube expect to happen? They have focused on being an ad revenue site, now with charging subscriptions to users.

Typical case of "shoot yourself in the foot, then blame someone else"...

It was a miracle they got people to upload loads of stuff and have made it this far. This lady is just biding her time with a fat paycheck while she wants to look like she is an expert. The truth is most people would never pay for youtube. Everyone loves the site, but there really isn't a good business model for it. There is so much copyright infringement going on I am surprised they don't take themselves to court.
