YouTube says that over 72 hours of video are now uploaded every minute of the day. For those of you keeping track, last year it was only 48 hours of video per minute.

Today 72 hours of video are uploaded to the site every minute. Like many 7 year olds around the world, we’re growing up so fast! In other words, every single minute you now upload three whole days worth of video instead of two.

Where the hell does it all go? I doubt Google wants to pay for never ending data storage upgrades.

Considering Gmail keeps adding storage to my account, I think they are always adding more storage for video too.

I would be curious to know how their system works.

I believe the title though, I'm subscribed to a lot of different YouTube channels, and there's new content everyday.

The other side of the equation is how much is removed every minute? From illegal movies, unauthorized content, etc.

Storage for the most part is cheap (well, at least cheaper than other portions). Yeah, I know it's more expensive than what we're use too (due to the types of drives for stability, etc), but still cheap.

That's why there are so many ads. I've never quite figured out how advertising makes them money, as I can't possibly ever imagine clicking on an ad on the internet, but I guess I must be different in that respect.

I have noticed though that many of the videos I've posted up of game play through's have been hit with a copyright notice violation that allows me to keep the video, but it throws in advertising throughout the video.

NSA datacenters, and, Usenet-like storage servers around the globe in collaboration with major backbone providers.

We have to keep this in perspective. Even thought it seems like a lot, it's still only 1 minute of content per person every three years (given that the world population is about 6.8 billion).

Imagine if porn was allowed (on that note, will there ever be a youtube.xxx?)! Then the rate would be at least double. :p

Well, 72 hours of idiot kids on their skateboards and bikes trying to stage fake accidents could be watched in one minute without missing anything, so it evens out.

Don't forget the video game footage with voice overs and the non stop unboxing videos.

AVGN, Urinatingtree, Armake21/NicotineAlien/Waste0time, and AqualungReviews stuff can stay, but they can get rid of the IrateGamer crap. Oh, and Retsupurae must stay as well.

You don't click on t.v. commercials either. It's not about getting you to directly buy the product that minute (though the internet allows that option to exist, so it might as well be included), it's about getting the product/service on your mind.

You may not have clicked an ad or even purchased an item "because of an ad" but they do influence sales.

I agree on so much useless and copied videos. Youtube should have a filtering system for those(but then that would take a ton of effort) I still can't believe how much videos are uploaded every minute though!!

The google plant near me is doing a large server upgrade within the next couple years.

Even though the volume of videos "only" went up by 50% over the past year from 48 hours/min. to 72 hours/min., I bet the amount of video uploaded almost doubled. Why? B/c the videos being uploaded now are higher quality (not necessarily in content, but in terms of resolution) than a year ago. Nowadays, almost everyone has a phone that's capable of at least 720p video and many that have 1080p recording capability. That wasn't the case a year ago.

So how much video is being uploaded every minute? I'm guessing 72 hours equates to about 100 GB if we say the avg video is 720p?

How come the iphone youtube app still brings up only garbage? Can't find any decent versions of songs through that thing.
