[YourNewCase] SUGO ... 5! GO!

Is the modular 450 also the gold unit they were showing a pic a little while back?

Yes it is the same one :)

Bah my Zontac GF9300-D-E is finally crapping out. Memory slots are going bad. Sometimes one ram slot boots, sometimes none. Sticks are good though. Checked on the egg and see other people have had similar ram slot issues so I'm going to RMA it. Thankfully I registered after I bought it like 3 years ago. Let's see what they do about it.

Report back on this, intresting to see what they do about it.....

However, SilverStone Europe told me late August at the earliest.

Heh :)

Cowcotland (French site) today said that the recommended retail price of the ST45SF-G has been announced in Japan. But they didn't reveal their source, and I couldn't find any link to the unit on any Japanese online stores.

Sorry guys, I have bad news to report. The launch of ST45SF-G has been delayed by at least two more weeks.

I am a sad system builder now. </3

Any info on the north america/canadian price while you're around Tony?

Well, it could be worse it could be two more months instead of two weeks. At least we have the info. Thanks Tony. :)

Yeah, I didn't mean to seem negative. SST make great gear and I'm willing to wait for them to debug a new product before it hits market.

Thanks from me too! :p

Edit:// Anyone have a price on this unit as of yet?

I'm still searching for the Japanese site which allegedly quoted 10800 yen (about 110 euro, USD $135). Accidentally I saw that in Australia, Techbuy.au are quoting AUD $125 for preorders (about 105 euro).

Didn't want to start a new thread for this. Here seemed appropriate.
Looking to put together a budget pc for some Dayz squad pvp with you lot and also some virtualization (ram upgrade later).
Anyone see any problems with these selections? Size, heat, etc....

I'm thinking about getting the MSI GTX 680 Twin Frozr III card for my SG05 build, but I'm wondering if it will fit.
Some places list the length as 270mm, and some 10" (which would be 254mm).
Possibly someone has fitted it?

Looking forward to that modular PSU :)

edit: found a comparision of it and the ref model, looks at most 3mm longer

MSI themselves list it as 270x129x38.75 mm
So that's 7mm longer than the internal length of the SG05
From the pictures it looks like the PCB is reference and that extra length comes from an overhang on the shroud.

Its just stupid that all the gtx 680/670 with custom cooler are to long. with the twin frozer it clearly a design thing, an there is room to fit the cooler on the PCB. same with Asus, Gainward, Gigabyte and Zotac.

The only one that does this the right way is Powercolor, fitting a great cooler ON the PCB, with bigger fans than none of the other can, just wish they made Nvidia cards :)

The reference card is 252mm, and from most pictures/videos I have seen, it just doesn't look like it adds 18mm...
For some reason though, pictures of the card vary wildly in this matter!

These can't be the same card. Judging from the second picture, I think it would fit in a SG05.

Oh, you're right.
Yeah, I read that, and it looks closer to 26cm judging from the pictures.

If it actually is a couple of millimeters too long, I guess you could file it down a bit, or make some small adjustments to the chassis...

Pricing for the ST450SF-G (G540ST450SFG420) has been listed in Australian at AU$125.25, or about USD$130.526 after conversation. So I can only assume it to be $129.99 retail in the US.

That's more than twice the price as a ST450SF non-modular bronze. I think I'll will just get that instead.

That's bad logic :) You need to compare against the price of the bronze ST45SF in Australia, not against the cheapest US price you can find. To be more accurate, you need to compare prices multiple vendors.

Techbuy ST45SF-G: $125 / ST45SF: $95 = 131%
The Office Shop ST45SF-G: $114 / ST45SF: $88 = 129%

So in Australia, the entry price for this new model seems to be only ~30% higher than the deflated price of the older model. Seems more reasonable now than "twice the price"?

on Amazon, it's price is $63.99. but like you said, it's Australia for selling it at retail price. since this is brand new, the likelihood of us dealers selling at retail will also be high.

Rough on the ol'girl aren't ya, haha. That's great, though. I had always wondered what the maximum dimensions would be for a card in this. 10.63"L is what I'm reading for that 680.

I have this case and all the guts in it, except for the PSU and GPU, waiting for the modular PSU they're about to drop. What, why did you have to pry the flange at the very top of your photo?

Now that you've gone through with your install, do you have any thoughts about how else you could have done this, looking back?

It's not the length listed on the official specs! The cooler is actually barely longer than the PCB. I'd say it's about 10.3".
Should have taken the time to measure it before i put it in.. I'm not taking the card out again if it's not needed ;)

Yes, I didn't see any other way than getting the card in but sliding the card in from the top of the chassis, so I temporarily bent the edges:
http://www.sweclockers.com/image/gallery/2012/07/27/12070031.jpg?t=original&k=a53e13d6
http://www.sweclockers.com/image/gallery/2012/07/27/12070032.jpg?t=original&k=cb4a303e

Of course I tried first to put in the card by rotating it and trying to slide it in place, but I didn't manage, there was not enough space.
Thinking about it now, it maybe would have been possible without bending if I would have put in the cpu cooler and RAM afterhand..

Is this without anny mod? how are temps?
As seen above, some temporary 'modding' was done. Maybe is possible without, if you take the time.
Temps are great! I think it's the second lowest temperature 680 under load. I even clocked it a bit.
The fans are perfectly placed for the SG05:

If anyone is interested, here is a short gallery (commentary in swedish) of the card being installed:

Right, the $1m question.

01ce6e8b.jpg

Does it fit? I make 265mm internal space and a 265mm long card. It's the VTX3D HD7970 X-Edition 3GB.

Just saw the recent Techpowerup review of the FT03-mini. Since most people consider it a standing Sugo, I figured their GPU installation was relevant. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Gigabyte's Windforce is about as big as the GTX 670s and 680s get, 285mm (11.2"). He trimmed the shroud and mentioned disassembling the card and reassembling it inside the case, not entirely sure what he considers disassembly, though.

I found that article a bit annoying. He complained about the fan being loud, but he didn't say what setting he had it on, or list any temp measurements. Was it loud when idle, was it loud when gaming, or during Prime95/Furmark? Why didn't he consider using a H60 or 620 since that is actually recommended in the manual?

Also his mention of there being no eject button for the optical. The only time that would be irritating is if you've suddenly inherited your cool uncle's CD collection and want to spend a weekend ripping it.

Not to mention that cutting up a 680 is a bit odd :)

I just posted this to the SFF Gallery here:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1038987765

Case: SilverStone SG05
Fan: Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-13 1150 RPM 120mm, used as front exhaust
PSU: Seasonic X-460 Fanless
Motherboard: ASRock Z77E-ITX
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2
CPU cooler: Antec Kuhler H2O 620
RAM: Samsung 8GB 30nm 1.35V DDR3 1600
GPU: PowerColor Go! Green AX7750
SSD: Samsung 830 Series 256GB

sg05_1.jpg

I replaced the original restrictive front hex grill with a much more open hex grill (ModRight ModMesh).

sg05_2.jpg

I modified this case to accommodate a full size ATX modular power supply.

sg05_3.jpg

A sheet of aluminum was cut to hold the SSD drive at the side of the case.

I measured AC power consumption with a Kill A Watt.

Power Consumption:

IDLE: 39W
Prime95: 98W
Prime95 + Furmark: 138W

Prime95 was set to Torture Test In-place large FFTs.

With that kind of power consumption numbers, how come you don't just go with a picoPSU?

I actually did try a PicoPSU. It had better efficiency at idle (saved about 5 watts) and did slightly worse at load. The power brick made a strange noise when the machine was off so I am sending it back.

We really need an option for a fanless SFX PSU. So many cases would benefit and 300W would be perfect for small systems. Picos just don't cut it above 150W.

But if your not gaming then 150W is more than enough ;)

My Anus E-350 mobo with an HD5450 powered by a 120W PicoPSU consumes only 18W while downloading 'iso's' :D

That's a very nice mod there joseph, sexy looking front panel.

The case can indeed take cards that are 26.5cm long.
