I had this built in late 2012 I think it's a Clevo based laptop, I had it built by cyberpowerPC and only paid about $1k which I thought was a great deal back then.
Ivy Bridge 3630QM i7 CPU, Nvidia 650M 1GB GPU, 16 GB Ram, 120 GB SSD, 750 GB HDD, 1080p screen.
 
Long story short... I posted a picture of my Alienware 17 R3 from about 2yrs ago. Well, the grounding plug broke off my AC adapter. Sense I warrantied it through Bestbuy's geek squad... I took it down to get my AC Adapter replaced free.

Well, the guy argued with me that it didn't matter the battery should still have charged (Which it wasnt sense the plug broke....) and they sent it out. Got it back, they replaced the battery, assembly.. and while they were at it.. my perfectly fine 4K screen but they replaced it with the wrong one. So they had to send it back. Got it back the second time... they replaced it again with the same screen.. got Best Buy's Geek Squad Manager involved.

They sent it back the 3rd time where they replaced the screen with the proper screen however, GeekSquad repair Depot failed to securely and safely package my 17 R3 for it's return journey.. and the fact UPS is notrious for not taking good care.. Needless to say as it reached Best buy... it was Crushed by UPS.

Best Buys GeekSquad manager had me pick out a PC of comparable performance, not comparable price of what I personally paid for my 17 R3 ($1,550.00 before Tax).

Manager returned a $1,799.99 laptop.. had me rebuy it (With the store credit return of $1,799.99 and gave me $100 discount for my troubles. I now own...

An Alienware 15 R3.

It's equipped with...
1920x1080 60hz G.Sync panel
Intel Core i7 7700HQ
16GB DDR4 2400Mhz Ram.
1TB HGST mechanical +128GB M.2 SSD
1070 GTX 8GB

It should've still charged, but likely something else broke too. For all that trouble I would've said f'it and grabbed a 2070 and some good ram if anything was left over, and got my laptop from somewhere else (Dell, if I was determined to have the alienware).
 
Base model 13in MBP, only machine I have at the moment. Honestly, does most things I need it to. Only issue I have is the 128GB SSD... Should have went larger.

I have 2 1080 Ti's in my desktop... Don't need nor want the 2070. Alienware IS Dell... technically.. so... unless your saying buy directly from them? same thing tho really.

upgrade it yourself. Not to hard to do, should be able to upgrade it yourself.

As far as the laptop..

I used to take my 17 R3 with me everywheres, my daughters do Dance competitions, and i take it with me when we go on vacations cause I can use it to put the girls to be by movies.. I also take it with me when we go on family vacations.

15 R3 is only a few lb lighter, but its much easier to take with me as its a bit smaller. The 970M in my 17 R3 was underpowered for the 4k display so never bothered me running it in 1920x1080.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I've heard better things about Dell's support than GeekSquad (although they aren't fantastic themselves), so if I wanted an Alienware I'd get it from Dell.

AFA the 2070's, sub whatever component(s) you want, that was just the closest value I could think of off hand. I figured you already had a good monitor/keyboard/chair, etc, but the 2070 is fairly new.

Catch is... the 3yr warranty through Dell.. is $900.... >_>

upgrade it yourself. Not to hard to do, should be able to upgrade it yourself.

You can in this model, but getting an SSD requires it to be used. Which then opens you up into getting a drive that hasn’t been updated. I plan to upgrade at the being of new year to a 15in.

I just found this old pic of the first laptop I bought myself, back in 2007, I believe: Asus V6va. It was state of the art at the time. Had a gorgeous screen.

Eluktronics. Delaware based white box company. So far I really like it, really fast, solid build, got it barebones through newegg. I really like the fact that it came completely unbranded, clean and un-gamer as can be.
