Exoskeleton robots are fast becoming a reality and many companies are starting to adopt them for use. Greg Nichols, over at ZDNet, believes we're going to see a lot of them in 2018 and that the market will continue to grow year-over-year. I believe he's right because there are a lot of jobs out there that are dangerous and repetitive that humans are currently doing that would be eased by a powered exoskeleton. Not to mention how the technology could also help out many people who have lost the use of their limbs. Check out this video by Sarcos showing some of their creations.

Watch the video here.

I really think if you swapped out the company logo with Umbrella corp it would fit perfectly in the Resident Evil world.

I'd like to see this help out disabled people. I worked with a guy who was born with a defect that prevented him from using his legs and arms. He could type and use a joystick with his feet. The guy was smart and a good worker as well.

Sci-fi has seen it coming.
Someone or some people are going to either...
  1. Hack the exoskeletons of other people to cause chaos when someone is wearing them, therefore creating weird situations where the wearer is hostage to the suit
  2. Build an armored power suit to go rob banks or go on a rampage, because now the exoskeleton is carrying that 100lbs of body armor and weaponry
  3. Create an AI that takes over all these robots and cause Armageddon, because we are seriously asking for this right now
  4. Fist fight Alien Queens on a space ship, because you never know...
And the many, many other things exoskeletons will be capable of.

The presentation was slick, but we'll see if they can deliver working, reliable products that don't carry astronomical price tags.

1 and 2 are essentially what Patlabor is about. Although that's big robots, not small exoskeletons.

Course who doesn't want to fight a Queen Alien with a space fork lift?

in 2018?
Last i checked, we can't even get drones to fly in the air longer than 30 minutes without it being some souped up drone. We're going to somehow perfect battery technology and allow people to walk around with exosuits that have enough power to do things like let disabled people walk around?
That's just someone's robot wet fantasy.

Lots? Just like we see lots of people with VR?

Shit costs money, and it takes time for people to afford them. Unless it's an iPhone, where people take a third mortgage to get one each year...
