I've recently formatted my Vista partition as I did not like Vista and when I start/reboot my PC it still comes up with the option of either choosing Vista or earlier version of Windows?

WTF?

When I choose Vista it says some files are missing... well, yes.

I think that it's written to my boot file and I do not know how to 'undo' that.

Help meeeee.

You need to boot off the XP CD, choose the Recovery Console option when it appears not Repair installation. Choose Recovery Console, log into the installation if necessary - usually you just press Enter when it asks you the question - and then enter the following commands in this order:

fixmbr (and press Enter)
Press Y for Yes and press Enter.

fixboot (and press Enter)
Press Y for Yes and press Enter.

Done.

Reboot and all traces of the Vista bootloader will now be wiped from the bootsector and the MBR.

NEXT!!!

Errm... one problem here...

How do you find out what your administrator password is?
I don't remember setting one - is there a default one?

It's blank if you didn't set one.

Do a google search for nordahl to create a bootable .iso / floppy to reset it to blank.
