firstly, think I can I start an acronym: Yet Another Build Request (YABR)? It would follow in the long line of FLOSS "Yet-Another" acronyms.

Anyways, to follow the template:
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
General purpose. Diablo III is as extensive as it gets.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1100 after tax and (if any) shipping.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
Vancouver BC Canada → No shipping on NCIX parts.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU, Board, RAM, Optical & Hard drives (would like to squeeze a 128GB SSD in), Case.
Keyboard, Monitor.
That should be everything except for a graphics card and a mouse.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I'm using an re-using an old GTS 450 and a mouse. I was surprised to learn that the GTS 450's contemporary appears to be the GTX 750's, which are about $100. Given that and the fact that all we need out of this build is to play Diablo 3, I'll stick with the GTS 450.
6) Will you be overclocking?
If you can convince me that overclocking is not a bad idea inside the cooling envelope of a default cooler, sure, but otherwise, probably not. I'd like to avoid aftermarket cooling.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
Well you guys pick it, but I'm expecting something upward of 1080p
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
ASAHP, I'd like it to be built (with room for any defective-part-swapping) in 1 week.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
all of these are flexible, but ideally
  • As there will likely be a graphics card upgrade in a year or 2, a full PCIE 3.0 x16 slot
  • mATX
  • 4+ USB 3.0
  • Not going to have a lot of drives, 6 SATA ports will be more than enough.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yeah, an MSDN provided Windows 8.1 x64

A couple notes:
  • Regarding this blog post, I'd really like to avoid Seagate and even WD. But because of Hitachi's general lack of availability in NCIX, I suppose I'll go with Western digital. I'm happy to pay $40 on top of the usual $80/TB to bump myself up to one of the higher grade drives if there's any kind of MTBF increase.
  • Along the same lines, I'd like to stick to conservative parts. I'd like to use boards with known-good BIOS's from Asus and Gigabyte (or preferably Intel although as I understand it they're out of that business), and PSU's built by CWT or Seasonic.

Cheers, and thanks for any help!

Actually it isn't:
  • sound card
  • Intel NIC
  • Wifi card
  • bluetooth adapter
  • printer
  • speaker
  • headphones
  • microphone
  • hardware RAID controller
  • firewire card
  • external hard drive
  • internal USB hub
  • external USB hub
  • card reader
  • fan controller
  • case lighting
  • LED fans
  • sound dampening
  • operating system
  • hot-swap bay
  • etc

You see why I want people to be SPECIFIC when they ask for what parts to buy?;)

Anyway, I'll be honest: NCIX's website pisses me off too much. Specifically their search and power search feature. Even Amazon's search is way better. So I'm going to just list out the parts this time rather than link them:
Core i5 4570 CPU
AsRock H87M Pro4 mATX Motherboard
8GB DDR3 1600 RAM for around $90 CAD
Samsung Evo 120GB SSD
Western Digital 1TB Blue drive
ASUS VS239H-P 23" LED IPS Monitor

As for cases, I recommend the following cases:
$70 - Corsair Graphite Series 230T Black w/ Window ATX Case
$93 - Corsair Carbide Series 400R ATX Case
$105 - Antec 1100 ATX Case
$110 - Corsair Carbide Series 500R ATX Case
$120 - Corsair Vengeance Series C70 Arctic White ATX Case
$120 - Corsair Vengeance Series C70 Gunmetal Black ATX Case
$120 - NZXT Phantom PHAN-002OR Black Finish w/Orange Trim Full Tower ATX Case
$120 - NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Full Tower ATX Case
$130 - NZXT Phantom 530 Black Full Tower ATX Case
$150 - Corsair Graphite Series 600TM ATX Case
$160 - Corsair Obsidian Series 750D ATX Case
$160 - Corsair Special Edition White Graphite Series 600T ATX Case
$170 - Corsair Obsidian Series 650D ATX Case
$170 - NZXT Phantom 630 Gunmetal Full Tower ATX Case
$170 - NZXT Phantom 630 White Full Tower ATX Case

Fairly sure that should all be under $1100.
