After trying to fight ubuntu over attempting to reinstall my onboard nvidia 6150 I decided to start fresh and give xubuntu a shot. Still had a fight but my video card is working properly and xubuntu is pretty neat! I like that I was able to easily install and enable compiz however I quickly ran into a couple of issues...
1. Video playback through mplayer would cause X to freeze (ok...i can use vlc)
2. XFCE has some problem I haven't identified and X restarts after a few hours (reproduceable)
Anyway I'm trying hard to leave my windows box for good but this sort of instability is not acceptable. Anyone have suggestions on where/why these problems could be occurring?
My solution has been to install Awesome WM which is very speedy and has been rock-solid so far.
