xps external monitor performance hit?

I have an xps with the mobility 9800 in it and for some reason when it is hooked up to an external monitor the performance goes to shit for games. I'm talking under 30fps for counter-strike condition zero running in 1024x768 with no aa/af. anyone know a fix?

If you are only using the external, I'm a little confused. If both the LCD and external are active, it's going to cut your performance in half.

Try using only the external display, and see if that helps.
 
thats what i have been doing, but thanks for the advice anyway. anyoen else?
