dell did a full warranty on the older model xps 13. I got the one with the infinity-edge . only problem is when I go to play acutal 4k videos i get really choppy playback. Im on the highest power profile I can get and also have installed the latest windows 8 drivers for video. I got this from work so I really cant take it back. I mean I can deal with 1080 and 1440 but 4k is so nice. Has anyone fixed this issue before?

Edit: here are the stats as follows:

    13.3-inch QHD+ infinity touchscreen
    Intel Core i7-5500U
    8GB memory/256GB SSD
    Windows 8.1
latest drivers from Dell as the automatic intel driver update cant seem to find any.

4k does take a little horsepower to display but not that much.

VLC might work out well for you.

if you have an nVIDIA card or AMD card in your XPS, I have no idea what those have, you might download VLC and assign the GPU to dedicate resources to the video playback thereby giving the full might of gpu cock diesel power to your pr0n experiences.

Lol what the fuck? You're using equipment from work to look at porn? That's some serious shit.

It was a test I've been sick at home with strep throat. I felt really stupid watching it on that tiny 13" screen(I didn't have any better 4K samples and FYI did not do the deed).

    But enough of that.

There's not an onboard video card on the laptop this one runs entirely off of the intel video card. Is VLC the de facto best 4k video player at this point? I was under the assumption that Media player classic + madvr and a few other codecs was the #1 way to play things. I will give this a shot though.

    Thanks

Edit just tired it. even worse that mpc-hc

I have found that VLC has problems with HEVC encoded 4k content. It couldn't really play my VGHS 4k clips, and that was on a full desktop haswell with SLI 780s. I tried out pot player(?) and it worked much better. I would just try out different players and you might find that some work better than others.

So I ended up with Klite. I set the filter to intel quicksync and voila! Now I just need to figure out why my audio is dropping after a minute or so for 5 seconds.

I know right? Porn is one of the main reasons tech has come so far.

Sure, great. But watching it on equipment given to you by work? Not the best idea really, and that's all i was saying.

Dang, I must be missing out on some good shit. 4K porn's gotta be better than the real thing if people are putting their jobs on the line to watch it.

I just downloaded that 4K video you linked to and it played smoothly on my Dell XPS 13 (9343) work laptop. The specs are exactly the same as yours except this one uses an Intel Core i5-5200U CPU and it's running Windows 10. Not sure why you're getting choppy video. Check to see what applications you have running in the background.

Its just steam. This unit is fresh out of the box. I was thinking of installing 10 anyways.
