Went to a co-workers house to try and remove some programs from his computer to speed up startup. He had so many programs running though that I couldn't even get the Task Manager to come up. I went to Msconfig and enabled Safe Boot and restarted the computer. Before it shut down though it started installing windows updates; apparently he hadn't turned off the computer in some time.
When the installation finally completed and it rebooted the screen came up saying "We apologize for the inconvenience - windows did not start automatically . . ." with the options to boot in:
"Safe Mode
Safe Mode with netwrorking
Safe Mode - Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
Start Normally"
No matter what option I choose though it just keeps returning to that screen. He has a HP 511n that came preinstalled with Windows so I don't think it would help if I tried to use a Windows XP cd to repair it. Is there anything else I can try before telling him to bring it to *shudder* Geek Squad?
