Enjoy fellow sceners, only hardware partners and OEM computer manufacturers received this today
When it comes to Service Packs, I'll stick to trusted sources only. Call me crazy, but I don't need to take those kinds of chances.
probably true. since i don't have anything important on here i'll install the nlite disc i made offline and see what happens. i'll scan for rootkits, viruses, etc when i'm done and report back i suppose. i could wait of course but i'm curious. lolI don't know if a digital signature is something that could be "hacked around" or not. I'm just saying I prefer to play it safe. It will be out soon enough on Microsoft's channels.
And here I made a post about this sort of thing this morning... geez. I'm surprised this thread has lived as long as it has, actually... but then again, maybe the hammer's about to drop. We'll see what happens...

No standalone exe yet.
It's a Service Pack for Christ's sake. Not a full blown install of XP with key included. Why would this thread be deleted/locked? There is no piracy involved.
Torrent does not automatically equal illegal.
And the really paranoid can always run 2 hashes on it to compare with the known TechNet version. If the digital signatures are valid, then the file is good to go. So far it's impossible to tamper with authenticode. It's very unlikely someone just renamed an RC2 build since the timestamp is the 13th... but I think I'll wait unitl it shows up on TechNet as well.
You don't need to do that. It's trivial to generate and compare the MD5 and SHA-1 hashes against the real thing, and it's a signed binary anyways.I wouldn't install a torrented service pack...then waste your time scanning for malware.

It's considered warez because you're not supposed to have it until next week when it's publically available to everyone thus the "leaked" part.
Would you prefer if this board allowed warez discussions, and then was shut down because of it? The only eye-rolling to be done, is towards those who haven't grasped this concept yet.If that's true, then this site is lamer than I thought...

if i download service pack three, it will cover serivce pack two? so i dont need to get both right
Oh and ps, I really think the link by the OP isn't a very good idea. If somebody wants the SP through unofficial channels it would be easy enough to find. Handing the keys to the uninformed is a bit silly. Especially given the level of crap allowed to be uploaded @ TPB.

not exactly a waste of time. just because i have it scan for malware doesn't mean i can't do something else. i came back and checked on it once in awhile
To anyone who would like to know the legitimacy of this file instead of savagely bickering back and forth about wares and what not, It was clean with NOD32 and after installed, it currently seems to be 100% legit and running fine. Toodles
