    What is XIM3?

    About XIM3:
    XIM3 Introduction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N828AUeUp5s
    Homepage: http://www.xim3.com
    Forum: http://www.xim3.com/community/index.php?board=46.0

PC-less operation: This is obviously a critical one that I've talked about a lot. XIM3 will be a stand-alone bus-powered device (plug and play). And (surely to cause controversy among some), it will not support gaming through a PC as an alternative. The PC is an inherently insecure environment with all sorts of compatibility issues when it comes to XIM. I hear about many issues customers have with XIM that would be fixed by simply removing the PC from the equation.

Smart configs: With Smart Configs you don't ever have to think about configurating the right settings for each game, it has already been done, with the work of Smart Translaters.
Which is where a computer has carefully analyzed the look mechanics in a game through the camera, and specifically works to get aiming as you would expect on the PC front.
To have a little peak in how incredible precision the XIM3 can do, check out this video: Smart Translators Demonstration.
Have an inside look in how the Smart Translators work, watch this video: Smart Translators Inside Look.
The acceleration is tweaked to the bare minimum: Acceleration Test.
Note: The speed and acceleration have been improved even further!

Input peripheral compatibility: Not only is it compatible with any mice and keyboards, but it also supports all joystick, throttles, rudder pedals, racing wheels and game pads devices such as Logitech G13, Razer/Belkin Nostromo, Sony Move Navigator and every other peripherals that comes to your mind.

Firmware upgradable: XIM3 will be firmware upgradable (unlike XFPS which requires you to buy a whole new unit to get fixes). You will never have to buy a new device every time a fix has been solved.
You only need to plug it into your computer and the XIMFlash will do its work. Just plug it in and in a click of a button you're done.

Xbox-only: PS3 is not officially supported, but you can get a converter to make it work for the PS3.
There are plenty of PS3 users on here using the XIM1 & XIM2 and one of the beta testers have confirmed the XIM3 works too.
There's several converters that works with XIM3, so I've picked out those by preferences.
    Firmware upgradable PS3 converter: http://www.xim3.com/community/index.php?topic=7573.msg83022#msg83022
If it's ever blocked by Sony theoretically the adapter would just need a firmware update and you're good to go.
From what I know it has only been tested on XIM1 and XIM2, but this should work with XIM3; since there's plenty of PS3 users on the XIM forum, they will confirm this shortly after launch, I bet.

    Cheap, working PS3 converter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042SB2I0/
Able to convert from Xbox 360 to PS2 and PS3; how well it will work on PS2 due to its different look mechanics I'm not sure, but it's been confirmed that this works perfectly on PS3 with XIM1 and XIM2.
Since it has an updates of 62/63 it should theoretically work with XIM3, but it's so cheap you may want to just buy one for the heck of it.

I would go as far as saying even XIM1 outperforms products such as XFPS/EEC/xScorch/MaxShooter.
If interested you can check the list for converters that works with XIM1: PS2-PS3 Working Adapters

    Games with Smart Configs:
At the moment there's only Smart Configs for:
    BFBC2
    CoD4
    CoDMW2
    CoDWaW
    CoD Black Ops
    GoW2
    Halo3
    Halo Reach
    L4D2
    Monday Night Combat
    Red Dead Redemption

This doesn't mean that you are only limited to these games, you can make your own custom configs to any other games, but there's nothing that beats Smart Configs.
Not long after the launch you will see Smart Configs for games such as:
Quake Arena Arcade (aka Quake III, Quake Arena)
    Borderlands
    Bioshock 1 & 2
    Fallout 3 & New Vegas
    GTAIV
    Medal Of Honor
    Unreal Tournament 3
    Dead Space 2
    Mass Effect 2 & 3
    And many, many more.
Games titles will also be prioritized by the XBL's statistics.

    Best regards,
    The XIMers.

I'm not going to lie, XIM3 is damn impressive and the solution for people wanting M/KB support for console. The precise control tests won me over. I would LOVE to get one, are they for sale yet? Still $150? :(

    I'm not an adbot.

They sort of went on sale last Friday but have closed down the store because too many people wanted to buy one and crashed the store.

I would rather play on console when I only have to update hardware every 6-8 years then every 6 months plus you can't play halo and few other games on pc.

yeah, i might buy a console if this thing works decent... I was skeptical at first, but watching this video got me a bit more interested:

Well, the poster two above me is still rocking a Q6600 which came out in January 2007.
You don't have to worry about obsolescence with Microsoft and Sony in the picture... problem is, you don't have to worry about innovation, either.

It was your only post which lead me to believe you were some kind of spam bot.

Still isn't worth it. The dead zones issues present with these "adapters" makes it frustrating as hell considering adjustments each time you switch games.

And you didn't really "present" your post in a way that WOULDN'T leave the impression you were an adbot.

Non-issue with the XIM3. I am a XIM2 owner and have been watching this project evolve for the past three years. This is no toy, or frustrating and inconsistent experience like the XFPS. Especially now with the XIM3, all that goes away. As long as you are playing a game with a SmartConfig then the mouse movement will be 1:1, just like on a PC. No more dead zones, different X:Y ratios per game. Just a clean, consistent 1:1 mouse movement across all games. Granted, you have to load the smart config for your game, but that is a few button presses. The SmartConfig is generated by the developer, he has a capture setup so he can create 1:1 pixel mapping by letting the computer manipulate the controller for 24 hours to generate enough data to give a nearly perfect mapping of deadzones, XY ratios, acceleration curves, etc.

The only reason I am not lining up for the XIM3 is because I rarely game anymore, therefore it is not worth it for me to spend an additional $150 on top of what I spent for the XIM2 ($190) just to play CoD:BO sometime in April (That will probably be the next time I play) for a few hours, then not touch it again till October.

The XIM3 is real, it works, the only thing that even comes close is the XIM2, and it pales in comparison with the XIM3 (Getting a good "feeling" setup with the XIM2 can be quite a challenge and take weeks of trial and error).

Aren't the games boring then, since you have an unfair advantage to everyone online?

I remember a relative having a similar, older device... back when MW2 was all the rage. He would have crazy KDR, be called cheater, etc...

If there is no competition how is that fun? Unless you're doing SP only or you like trolling? (I admit, I've been playing BFBC2 on PC of course recently... discovered the joys of parking the tank on MCOM after planting bomb)

Hmm well interesting. I'd rather wait for reviews before I plunk cash down but the prospect of being to kick ass better in Halo : Reach (considering I play it every other night with friends) is very compelling.

Also how did the OP order one when it shows them not being released?

Edit : Nevermind the store front is closed. $149 bucks though .. I mean thats the cost of an xbox 360 .. pretty expensive.

$149 to do something I can do for free with a PC?
Really,if Microsoft actually gave a damn about gamers, they would have built in KB/M support with their consoles from the start. They've done more to hold back gaming for the love of money than anyone else. I wouldn't spend a dime on their antiquated console, let alone $149 just so I could play games properly.

They do offer support for some games. The major problem I have with this adapter (other than price) is that its like having aimbot for the PC. ALL and I do mean ALL console FPS games have auto aim of some sort and while its not as strong as a true aimbot for the PC (some allow you turn it off most don't) the amount of easy shots in the video while cool just feel cheap as hell.

I realize this doesn't bother anyone else probably but it feels like its sorta cheating. I hope that MS wouldn't do anything dumb like locking its console against the usage of this adapter which it could do and thus negate the 150 bucks being spent on it.

Now that I know about this adapter it'll be easier to spot whos using it and that kinda sucks for everyone else that doesn't have it.

Locking out it's use would be entirely typical of Microsoft,if they can't make money on it,then it's a no-no. Making games 360 exclusives, not making any real effort to develop PC games or improve gaming features in their operating systems,it's all about controlling the gaming market as much as possible.

Unfortunately, many people who post on this thread are not informed enough to make posts that convey facts.

The XIM3 is NOT capable of being banned due to how it functions. The only way it can be banned is if microsoft bans its own wired xbox 360 controllers. The XIM3 requires the controller to be plugged into it at ALL times, not just for initial verification like the XFPS and garbage like it. If you don't believe me, or want an in depth read, go to the forums at www.xim3.com and search the forum. I'm not writing all this down again.

You can NOT move any faster than a controller can. The XIM3 conveys controller movements to your xbox. It can not tell your xbox to move faster than the maximum possible with a thumbstick.

$150(XIM3) plus $150(xbox) = cheaper than any gaming PC, and allows you to play with all the people you know who have xbox, but not a gaming PC. People are cheapasses and many don't even have a clue how to build or upkeep a PC for gaming. Now you can pop into a game in under 2 minutes with your friends after having your gaming system OFF. That's awesome.

I am a XIM2 owner and my XIM3 will be arriving Friday according to my tracking number. I was one of the few who got their orders in before the bandwith was exceeded on the stores server.

    I'll wait for the reviews.

I currently use a Fragnstein for playing on my PS3. The only reason I have it is so I could play against the guys here in Iraq who don't have decent gaming machines but still wanted to play games. I hate it but it's better than the stock controller and the only way to get my multiplayer gaming fix.

If this does well I will probably get one. But that is a huge "if".

Microsoft and PS3 could support mice/keyboard setups easily. I don't understand the resistance.

For some of us, the only reason why we have an XBOX is because none of our friends play PC games and they all play XBOX.

It's not about an unfair advantage, its about playing the damn game correctly(i.e., with a high precision device, not a low precision device).

Hell, besides the BF series(the real ones, BF1942, BFV, BF2) and the Civ series, I don't have a reason to won a PC for gaming. Those are the only ones I care about on the PC.

According to whom, you? Times have changed and many think that playing a game correctly is with a controller.

Good is realtive to your surroundings as well. Point and clicking with a mouse is MUCH easier than mastering joysticks....hate to break it to you. Thats why all you leet PC gamers try to shit all over consoles, your stuck in your little box.

This device makes no sense, if you want to play with KB/M play on PC. This is just for trolls who want to artificially inflate their K/D ratio.

Well I had an XIM2 and destroyed everyone I ever played, those that kept up with me also had XIM's. For instance I was playing Halo 3 with friends and sucked with the sticks. Out of no where I was simply crushing everyone, all of my friends thought I was cheating or something. I never told them I aquired a new toy.

That being said, if he really did solve the dead zone dilema and not just a fancy work around (SmartJoy Frag) and it truly is 1:1 everyone who buys it will become a god. True you can always play PC but in my case and many others ALL of my friends have either a PS3 or 360 and none of them game on their PC.

Yes you can technically ruin the experience for some, but the majority of the time they are 12 yr olds (Halo kiddies) and are strangers who you don't care about.

Nothing tbh, most of my friends will be on my team anyway. People can say whatever they want but being able to play and enjoy it is more important than being frustrated everytime you die because of the sticks.

Anyone ever spoiled by KB/M's are always hard to forget their roots imo.

Well, look at it this way. If devices like this gain prevalence then maybe they will stop gimping control scheme on console and the only thing we'll have is dumbed down gameplay/graphics as opposed to dumbed down controls as well.

I never stated that my posts were "facts" and my viewpoint is purely from my own perspective on the product in question. I'm sure if MS wanted to it could update its systems to no longer accept wired 360 controllers but it would be extremely unlikely to do so considering how many people still use them and the fact that there are millions floating around. Disabling USB devices via software isn't exactly a hard thing to do.

$150 for an adapter that works with 7 or 8 games is expensive , if it worked with games on the fly 100 percent and didn't require a profile from the author to work completely correct that argument might hold more weight. This adapter appeals to a small group of gamers thats desire being able to play certain console FPS games this way , its not going to sell millions or even 100's of thousands in volume. Price point on this adapter is a big issue. It also ONLY works on the 360 , if it worked on the PS3 as well it would probably be an easier "sell".

Building a gaming PC no longer costs a fortune , this whole idea that you have to spend thousands is completely absurd and outdated thinking. You can spend $500 and play any game you want and have it looking pretty great (still better than anything on a console) and its upgradable as well so comparing this adapter to being a "better alternative" to a cheap gaming PC is completely unestablished jargon.

And while this device doesn't technically relay input faster than a controller can it still large advantage to a regular console gamer using a controller ..otherwise this adapter wouldn't have even been developed and sold. It allows the advantage of smoother movement and aiming .. combine that with the fact that all console FPS games seem to have some form auto aim and its a bit cheap. While that doesn't really have any bearing on anything thats just my viewpoint , take it or leave it.

More than likely you'll buy a console when your friends/coworkers do and you have nobody to play with on PC. Denial is one step towards recovery, its ok .. owning a console doesn't mean you cannot play your precise anointed gaming rig.

    Embrace your future.

Consoles are primarily living room devices, and most people don't want to be dealing with a keyboard/mouse in that environment. Controllers aren't dumbed down, they just happen to be the best input method for how and where people play console games. Plus have you ever tried to play a local multiplayer game with keyboards and mice on? Good luck with that.

I never got the whole logic behind using a kb/mouse to play games on consoles and declaring that now you can play properly. Must be really satisfying banging out that 30/2 k/d ratio against a bunch or people using thumb sticks!

I've tried one of these devices for the 360, and while it worked ok I found the motion blur was much more noticable, to the point where it made me feel physically ill

But that probably wouldn't affect most people..

Frankly I'd rather have native keyboard / mouse support directly available for the console games. If they sort that out then I'd sit a 360 under my pc desk. I'm not really a pc gamer, I'm a kb/m gamer

lol at the "just play a pc" arguments...

Did you guys also complain when the arcade stick controller came out for consoles, and told those folks "just go to the arcade!"

Geeez, this is not like committing a crime or something.

I hope the device does well and it supports more games in the future. I may buy one and get into FPS console gaming. No, not to have an "unfair advantage" over other folks, I don't want to play with you anyways... but to enjoy some games I might otherwise pass on.

If for some reason this stops YOU from enjoying yourself, well... that's strange and really not my problem.

It does work on PS3, you just needs a new firmware compatible xbox controller to PS3 adapter; which I own. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042SB2I0/ref=oss_product

I know very well how much a gaming PC can be built for, but how many of your friends actually know how to build a PC or make the proper choices in selecting hardware? Do they read HardOCP as well? All of my friends are not capable of building a PC on their own and they can not maintain one. I have 16 people I play with on Xbox 360, and none of them have a gaming computer. I was a competition PC gamer for 10 years, but now I'd like to just play with my friends. I bought and built a PC for my friends for FREE, but he only uses it for pornhub.com instead of games. I did all I could. Xbox is my only option.

This adapter will have new smart translators out all the time. And remember that some games will use the same adapter. Fallout 3 and Fallout NV will have the same profile as Oblivion. The creator of XIM3 is a gamer like us and he will be getting the smart translators out.

Advantage over gamepad? Yes. Gamepad uses 6 digits total, and only one of them to aim your gun. Of course a m&kb which uses 9-10, and ~3 to aim your gun will be better. I bought it because I don't want to reprogram my brain for a controller.

Um, yes, of course me. That is why I choose to play with a KB/M.

This also does not artificially inflate K/D ratios. It does not inflate anything. All it does is give you a different platform for controlling the game.

Yeah, you are still way off. Like, for instance, other 'adapter' have sold over 100,000 units. Stating this one won't is just your 'unestablished jargon.'

it has profiles with 11 games, not 7 or 8. Just because the game does not have a profile, does not mean it doesn't work. it isn't hard to set yourself for games without the translator.

Not sure why you mention autoaim, anyone using a XIM would actually turn autoaim off.

Lastly, plenty of people using it with the PS3.

So, anymore 'facts' you want to make up?

Wow you completely didn't get my post at all.

"unestablished jargon" was my statement about it being a better option than a cheap gaming PC. And that comment is still bullshit.

Also the XIM3 website states that it only works with xbox 360. Doesn't say anything about it working with the PS3 at all. I'm glad some people have figured out how to getting it working with such but from what the main FAQ not really surprising how I might have got that wrong.

The standard or "learning" profiles still requiring tweaking which from the sound of it seems like the XIM2 until the author profiles are released.

11 games being fully supported is not really so much better than 7 for $150 bucks.

Auto aim is not "turned off" when you use the adapter , its auto aim is a built in feature of many console FPS games. Unless the game has an option in the menu to turn it off , its not off.

Of course I figured there would be those that would come in and defend there purchase and thats fine but I just don't see the worth.

And as I've said before my personal opinion , don't like it .. thats fine. But I never passed off my viewpoint as "fact".

I want to get this adapter so that I can play with some friends on the xbox.
I prefer gaming on the PC but a lot of my friends prefer playing on xbox and I like playing with them but I just don't enjoy the experience using a controller.

the online group experience playing Black Ops on the Xbox is much better than on the PC.
On the PC, your group doesn't grouped together on the same team since there is no common lobby system. So the PC gets dedicated servers but loses the ability to play as a group on the same team.

didn't mean to go offtopic with the Black Ops rant.
