I havent ever had to RMA a video card but Im curious how the warranty would be handled if the video card was never registered and you bought it used. Are you then able to register it yourself? Do you have to provide proof of purchase to warranty or register the card? On their website it says some of their cards have a transferable warranty so this may be a pointless post.

Pray to the gods of quality that you never have to use that warranty with XFX.... I think XFX have the worse technical support Ever and their RMA policies are horrible.. so pray a lot

Hello Tengis,

As far as Registration is concerned, we do ask that the serial is registered within 30 days. Your receipt is the most important thing (whether it be from an online retailer, or 2nd owner paypal receipt). If i can be certain you purchased this card, i can typically find a way to get you taken care of... the static policy does vary from card to card, but your best bet is...

Keep the receipt, register within 30 days. If you did those 2 things, it's typically a walk in the park.

I used their warranty services twice on separate occasions. Never had issues with tech support and got my cards replaced within a timely manner.

I was in your case. I bought a AMD HD4870 from someone on a forum. He sent me a bad video card, I registered my card on XFX and opened the ticket. I told them that I bought it from a user on the forum and they acknowledged that sometimes people sell bad stuff, but they opened a ticket and gave me full warranty on it anyway. I sent in the bad card and they sent me back an HD 4890.
My experiences with XFX have been great, prior to that I had a 8800GT go bad, I sent that in and got a 9800gt in return. always within 2-3 weeks. I know some people have had bad experiences with them, but I've had nothing but good dealings.

I've had to RMA a couple to XFX and it was painless. All the warranty transfers I have done went through without a hitch. Another benifit is look for any XFX thread where someone is having a problem and XFXSupport will probably have a post in it helping fix it.

ive used their warranty 3 times, each with satisfactory results or better. a couple of times with bad fans and one was with artifacts. they replaced a bad 5770 with a 6850. each of my experiences has been with cards i alone purchased as a new card. the advertised transferable lifetime warranty was last done with the 5xxx series to my knowledge.

when they changed their site layout many of my 5xxx series lifetime warranty registrations disappeared. even my new 7870 that I registered went away until i registered a 2nd time. so now it looks like i didnt register within the 30 days :-/ i hope i dont run into problems in the future.

Old thread, but hello.

I'm in the same situation from the OP where I purchased a new 290X from a forum member and end up registering the card myself. I got his original receipt as well as my paypal receipt that I used to buy from him. Will XFX honor my warranty?

I tend to go for Asus when I buy used now... I havent had luck in the past returning XFX products. I have purchased about five R9 290s and three of them were bad with artifacts (presumably from mining) and returning them to Asus was easy.

Why? Because you had a bad experience once?

Shooting you a PM with details.

Officially speaking, only the retail purchaser of the R200 series card maintains the 2 year or extended warranty. It cannot transfer. However, unofficially speaking, we typically do not enforce that on the 2 year warranty. If the serial # or receipt date shows its within 24 months, we usually have no problem setting up an RMA.

Thank you

I'll also vouch for xfx rma. Had a 7970 fan go bad. XFXSupport was great. Had a new HSF combo over-nighted to me. Would buy xfx new/used again.

Personally speaking I've had the best experience with XFX.

I had a fan die on my XFX 7870, just PMed XFXSupport and he's sending out a new set of fans. Awesome support, imo.

I'm so intrigued by this thread that I just had to sign up to add my 2¢. The XFX support team really should serve as an example to other companies on how support should be given. Having said that, it's also the company which sells the most crappy build hardware I've ever came across. I've had three different XFX products which all suffered from failed components. One of them had a blown capacitor and ALL of them got fan issues that ultimately led to defect GPU's and/or memory. They're very cheap compared to A-brands, but their build quality (or lack of) certainly reflects their lifespan.

I have been using Asus and Gigabyte products for many years and never had any real issues with them. Back in 2009 I built myself a system featuring an XFX graphics adapter (HD 5770 single slot) since I was on a tight budget. The card's fan stopped working after it being little over a year old. It got replaced by the vendor (with a dual slot) whom told me I'd better keep away from XFX in the future. About two years later that card died as well, also suffering from a failed fan.

Figuring I just got really bad luck, and being tempted by their very low pricings, I purchased yet another brand new XFX card. In the mean time I had swapped PSU's and upgraded both my motherboard and processor. After two years and three months (out of warranty) that card started producing noise (failing fan, AGAIN) and I did not even need to open the case to know what is was and where it was from.

I eventually tossed out that card when a capacitor popped due to the excessive heat caused by the lack of cooling. I purchased myself an Asus 970 Mini (GTX970-DCMOC-4GD5) and it is running (inaudible) ever since.

I guess if you team up XFX's support department with ASUS' products, you'll have a rock solid company that everyone craves for. On a side note: ASUS might have a decent support team as well, but I've never been in contact with them as I've never seen an ASUS product fail.

PS. Googling for "xfx failed fan" (without the quotes) will give you more hits than entering "porn" in the search field. You would expect XFX to up their game and start producing higher quality products. Sorry for the rant on my first post (honestly), but I had to get it out of my chest. I'll hope they will do better in the future.

"Porn" returns more Google results than "XFX failed fan". I looked into this for science.

XFX used to be great in terms of warranty with the lifetime and double lifetime warranties. Support was good, too. But, it's gone downhill since. Seems like they have gone from high service/enthusiast to being the budget brand.

Same deal with EVGA and BFG way back. I've had good experiences with both EVGA and XFX in the past but the industry has changed since then. They adapted and BFG did not.
