XenApp 6.5 with Citrix Recv. 3.1 disconnect issue

Long story short, we have a XenApp 6.5 environment with Citrix Receiver 3.1 and the few test sites (WAN users) are getting random disconnects in the middle of them working on the system. The message is to the effect of "unable to connect to the server at this time". When they receive that we can log in the same way through the local LAN. Any ideas? I'm leaning towards this being some sort of licensing or timeout issue. Worst part, this is not even my environment, but the client's IT is not impressing me.
 
No answers for you .. only questions:

1. What is between you LAN and WAN users? Gateway/Firewall ... Web Interface Only?
2. What type of WAN speeds and how much latency.
3. Any network tracing done?
4. Any IPS antimalware type software/hardware scanning WAN traffic?

I am not aware of licensing issues causing disconnects of already established sessions - and you
state you can log in via LAN at the same time(?).
I guess I'd be leaning toward the timeout issue too but too little info to go on.
