Xbox series X

No, I am talking about the API. The PlayStation API used to be based on OpenGL, but it isn't anymore. One of the reasons it's still difficult to port games between consoles and why there is still such a performance disparity despite the hardware being more similar than ever.
We agree here. The legacy console model *IS* the problem. I'm saying get rid of it. The hardware being so similar means there is no reason for the API/software differences any longer. There is a huge performance disparity between pc gaming setups, yet the same games run on everything from a steam deck up to a 5090 monster. No reason the same can't be done with a console pre-built mass market consumer gaming appliance.

What's a good resale price for an Xbox Series X, 1 TB launch edition?
I would wait til the official price goes into effect. Right now? $250? Maybe $300
Indeed if you are looking to sell, I'd wait to see if used pricing goes up as well. I suspect it will just like GPUs have. If looking to buy, probably will not be a better time until it's a generation or two old.

Of course some of the best ways to try to find common used pricing is going to be things like looking at completed eBay auctions, Facebook Marketplace listings, something like Gamestop used pricing and what they are giving for trade-in as it'll likely go somewhere between those.

I don't see the new console pricing affecting used sales much. The demand for Xbox is lower than ever and will only get lower now that all their games are on PS5 (and Pro). MS knows sales are going to get even worse now, but obviously think that's better than losing money on every console sold now.

So I'd say $250 or so for a Series X will be about the going rate even after the price hike.

Cool thanks. I am looking to sell mine as I don’t use it at all. There used to be 1 or 2 game pass games that I would play on it but that reason is also going away. With Forza coming to PS5 and PC there is no more reason to own an Xbox for me. I am assuming the new gears will also be on PC so that is literally it.

There were 3 first party titles keeping me with an Xbox and all are gone (Forza, Halo and Gears).

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Legends of the Zone Trilogy

all three S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are now available on Xbox...a collection that includes 2007's Shadow of Chernobyl, 2008's Clear Sky, and 2009's Call of Pripyat, delivering GSC Game World's franchise for the first time to consoles

later this year, the team will release a patch for Xbox Series X|S version that will bring additional graphical enhancements and other features...the console versions will also have mod support via mod.io, but this too will be a feature to roll out later as the team continues to tweak things a bit...

Kind of cool to see how the different consoles compare when conparing jusy rendering at a given resolution.

PS5 Pro is 33% faster than Series X / PS5
Series X / PS5 is 3x faster than Series S *
PS5 Pro is 4x faster than Series S *

* Ultra Performance mode had additional cutbacks so not a perfect comparison.

It's 4 times bigger than the Series S, so I guess the performance per square inch math works correctly. Too bad the performance per dollar doesn't and the Series S is ridiculously priced now.

I think the only downside to the S existing had been Microsoft’s insistence on feature parity. It should have been marketed more as a lower cost replacement model for the Xbox One than as the lower performance and cheaper Series model. They seem incredibly popular. Everytime I have ever seen full shelves at Walmart of them, they dwindle in stock as I go back.

Yeah, they're great for playing older games. I have a 4TB hard disk drive plugged into mine just loaded with old games. Really wish it they had a better way to add internal storage like Sony did, but they've been doing proprietary drives since the 360.

Only the gpu is 1/4 power. Cpu and other components are only marginally worse. Profits or losses are likely similiar on each console.

Besides, last gen consoles dont drop to 1/10th price when the new consoles are released.

It was a joke referring to the actual physical size of the consoles. My Series S is sitting next to my Pro and the Pro is 4 times bigger in physical size.

Its really cool seeing 40 fps gain poularity. Its giving a bit more life to the Series S.

40 fps would have been sweet on the One X / Ps4 pro as well during the transistion.

Xbox game pass can still be purchased gray key for < $10 a month.

I like it to try new titles I wouldn’t otherwise try. I’ve found some really fun titles that way and overall it saves me money. I bought Doom 2016 for instance at launch, but the last two Doom games I’ve played on game pass at launch for free. I’ve played bethseda titles for free, some Indie titles for free, my kids play lots of titles for free. It’s great for families (playing one console at a time). It’s probably the highest value subscription I have at < $10 a month. Just buying two games a year puts you the same cost as a year of game pass and I play a lot more than 2 games in their service.

Yes I will do that once my current one expires
