Xbox One X Pre-Orders Reportedly Launch This Weekend

Tweets are going out suggesting that Xbox One X pre-orders will begin this Sunday, August 20, following Microsoft’s Gamescom press conference/livestream event: it doesn’t seem that farfetched, being that the console will launch in just a couple of months. We will supposedly hear more about Xbox One X game support this weekend.

The Xbox One X will cost US $500 / £449 / AU $649. It launches on November 7 worldwide, though it will do so without Crackdown 3 alongside it. Microsoft has delayed the open-world action game once again, this time until next spring. Xbox One X is a more powerful version of the Xbox One. It's capable of powering 4K games and is a step above other console hardware already on the market (including the PS4 Pro). Despite the horsepower, it's Microsoft's smallest console to date.

I do find a bit sad and ironic that they seem to have lost some people due to a feature that they had been asking to have for ages now. If anything the Play Anywhere approach has proven why they didn't back the PC end of gaming as much as they promised they would during the 360 era.

I fail to see how it is a loss for the consumer though. My kids play the Xbox and I generally play the PC copy. It's a win all around. Fact is, an Xbox One (even the X) is cheaper than a high end PC any day of the week. I almost always opt for the PC of the three platforms on anything cross platform. So even if Play Anywhere didn't exist I would only use the Xbox for the exclusives I am most interested in (which as of late is none).

No one except the diehards (who already own an Xbox) are going to buy it. It will do nothing to increase their software sales, nor will it increase their revenue from XBL subscriptions. This is going to mark the end of the XBox brand, just watch.

With Crackdown 3 pushed out to late next year, the only exclusive the Bone X One will apparently have will be Forza 2017 or whatever. Not sure the same racer with slightly better pixels is going to move consoles from store shelves.

I ( myself included too ) have several friends who bought PS4 and PS4 pros only for those two games as everything else they play on a PC.

They lost from the beginning with that E3 announcement year's ago. They were too arragont and though people would eat up all their restrictions and DRM. Just like Sony did with the PS3 and MS swooped in and took over with the 360. Sony learned from their mistake with PS4 and stomped MS. No matter how popular you were the previous generation don't think people will let you need them over and tell them what they want. Nintendo seems like they are the only ones imune to it. They can release a complete turd of a system that no one want and come out next time with a turd of a system and it would sell like hot cakes. They can aslo be a compete dick to their fans and get away with it unlike Sony and MS.

I want one but not enough at $500 since:
a. not any major bonuses/benefits other than the fact I do want 4k... not sure if will be stellar from the start
b. super powerful system no vr from launch
c. no exclusives

It just seems like its the cool console at the wrong time... if they built this 2 years ago it would of been worth waiting .

I have to disagree on Bloodborne but Horizon Zero Dawn is an amazing game, Persona 5 while not my cup of tea is hugely popular as well. MS missed the mark this time around they have no system sellers and the ones that are have PC versions.

I was just scrolling around Bestbuy.com looking for a 4K HDR Bluray player and the XBox One X came up - but still listed as coming soon. The release date listed was November 7th.

The thing that interests me most about this system is the possibility of a 1080p/60 version of Red Dead Redemption 2. With Rockstar mum on a PC port (meaning it's at least 2 years out like GTA5), this may be as close to a proper version of that game as we're going to get. At the very least the system should be capable of pushing 1080p/60.

Yeah but it doesn't have a 4K/UHD drive either. Then again, the XboneX hasn't released yet so who knows what it will come with. Maybe MS will have the "courage" to just get rid of optical discs and go all digital (I'm laughing as I type that, but stranger things have happened).

Unless you have a decent 4K HDR set you can't even take real advantage of 4K blu-ray. The difference between 1080p and non-HDR 4K are not that big in 99% of cases. Prior to just a few months ago buying a decent-quality HDR set was over $1000. Its going to be years before HDR hits market saturation enough for 4K bd to matter, by then it will pretty much have gone the way of 3D blu-ray.

Might as well get a XB1S in that case. I doubt the X is going to have a different BD drive so 4K BD performance will be the same between them.

I'll do a wait and see. If it doesn't provide anything of substance, not going to get it. If they try to push 4k gaming content with shit frame rates, instead of buttery smooth 1080p gaming with it, I won't bother.

Funny you say that, not just physical BR/4K for movies, but also the games. MS tried to do away with the optical drive before and everyone lost their minds. MS would love to ditch it and have everything streaming, but oh noes, people have to "own" their games.

Honestly I think they could sell a cost reduced version without the optical drive and there would be plenty of buyers. As long as there is the option to have optical drive if you really want/need.

5 years ago I would have never considered a console where I didn't "own" the games. Today... eh... not so much.

I'd probably consider a cheaper system with no optical drive. I haven't purchased a physical game (for any platform) in years. I'll admit that I am somewhat interested in finally having a UHD Blu-Ray player, but it's not that big of a deal. I have a pretty ideal 4K watching environment and will readily admit that the difference for most films is minimal. Film grain combined with letterboxing = tough to tell.

I'm in the same boat as some of you. I would buy it - not for the games - but for the movie watching capability and specs (this is [H] after all) but the downside (and why I like physical media) is because I have Xfinity / Comcast - which goes out whenever anyone moves in or out of my building since they only seem to send crappy sub-contractors and not actual Comcast employees to do the install / uninstall work.

Everyone's use case is different. You obviously have to decide for yourself. Saying it's ALL GREAT or ALL SHIT just makes you look like an idiot.

As for 4K HDR TVs - one of the best currently reviewed 4K HDR TVs for 55" is the TCL - which is only $600 bucks or so, not bad at all in my book.

They should have taken all of that money and R&D and just put it into either coming up with an exclusive game, or buying a company that could make them an exclusive game. They probably would have made more money off of that. Of course, it's MS, so they could really do both. Which is the thing that actually surprises me. You can't sell a system based on one shooter property, one racing property, and a bunch of sports games. (actually the sports game fans might be just the ticket for the XBOneX)

Friend and I played Battlefield One last night on our Xbox One consoles last night and had a blast. I am still amazed at the graphics of that game on the "lowly" Xbox One. I just don't see a need to upgrade right now and I suspect that is going to be a huge challenge to overcome for the new Xbox, convincing that consumers need to upgrade. Now if they somehow give me $200 on a trade I may start to think twice. I am perfectly happy with the graphics and performance of the current Xbox One and I suspect most people are.

I'm not surprised. HDR is still fairly new and a lot of companies are not doing great transfers just yet. There are still only a few really big showcase movies. If you have a set that can show off HDR at a decent quality I'd suggest looking at Life of Pie and going back and forth between HDR and non-HDR. Life of Pie was one of the early examples of how to do HDR right, there is a huge difference in color reproduction between normal and HDR, same with lighting.

Its not really gamers preventing MS, and other companies, from going digital only. Its Walmart, Gamestop, and so on. There isn't a huge profit margin on games, but its better than what they get with consoles. On top of that, getting people to come in to buy physical copies of games also allows those stores to try and sell other things to gamers. There is a reason some Walmarts put some soda and snacks near the video games. It might not be as much of an issue now that retailers are getting into selling digital copies of games, but before they were a huge barrier preventing digital-only consoles.

As for 4K HDR TVs - one of the best currently reviewed 4K HDR TVs for 55" is the TCL - which is only $600 bucks or so, not bad at all in my book.

The 2017 P-series is the TV I've been eyeing up since I first saw a preview of it. I'm waiting for a 50" version though as 55" is way, way too big for the room I'd be putting it in.

Gamestop's front page is advertising "Exclusive GameStop Trade offer announcements to follow." If they have some sort of sweet trade-up program for the Xbox One S I will take advantage of it, but otherwise I am going to pass. The only reason I use the Xbox One S I already have is to play with 2 friends of mine who virtually are never online anymore anyway. So it will be a hard sell, but I agree with others about potentially having 6-fps titles like RDR 2 and the-like. That's be great. Although I already have a PS4 Pro so that'll likely get the same treatment. Really, the only scenarios I can foresee which would include me getting a Xbox One X is if RDR 2 had co-op and if RDR 2 wasn't coming out on PC. I keep my co-op and multiplayer experiences on Xbox One.
