Here's my setup:
HTPC using Asus AT3IONT-I (atom 330 with nvidia ion)

I'm using xbmc via openelec
things were working fine.
I had some old video files which had stereo audio which worked great.

So then I get this idea to start ripping some of my blu-rays and I kept the original DTS-HD audio track.

So the HTPC plugs directly into my tv using an hdmi cable.
My tv has no external speakers/home theater system - just the basic stereo inbuilt on the tv. My thinking for ripping the movies with dts-hd was so that when I upgrade to a decent home theater system in the future I wouldn't have to re-rip everything.

The problem being, these new rips won't play the audio right. When I watch the rips on my computer, everything's perfect. When I try to watch any of the new rips on my tv in xbmc all I get is this loud and constant buzz/hum.

So I guess I was just hoping that the tv, or htpc or something along the way would realize that actual audio output was only stereo and make any necessary conversions along the way.

So where is my problem? Is it a matter of changing settings in xbmc? Do I actually need some additional hardware? Is my problem actually something else?

fixed it
stupid mistake
i had the box checked saying my reciever was dts capable.
