X99 on mITX: ASRock X99E-itx/ac

Will be trying these this weekend. :)

Sad to report that the 128gb dimms did not work. It would register within bios but when I would install Windows 10 or Ubuntu, it would always freeze. I tried both dimms together and also one at a time and same results every time. I popped back some 16GB dimms and everything would be back to normal. Bios issue? or something else?
 
Contact ASRock about that? They might be able to give you a beta BIOS with added functionality like they did me a while back.

How / where did you get the proper bracketry to mate the NH-L9x65 to the 2011-v3 Narrow socket…? Cost(s) for same…?

EDIT TO ADD:

Since we ARE in the ASRock X99E-ITX/ac thread, I am assuming that your above CPU/HSF combo is on the same; meaning, you have found a mounting solution for the NARROW version of the 2011-v3 socket…?!?

Who did you reach out to at asrock? I typically just ask them on their forums but I heard they have't been that responsively lately.

I just emailed them. I was hopeful and also tried some 64GB DIMMS, 2400 Mhz from Samsung Load Reduced and it had the same issue as the 128GB DIMMS. Hopefully they can give me a beta bios that works for both! Thank you.

Did you ever find a solution for getting the larger DIMMS to work?
 
Hi!!!!

I was using water cooling from 4 years ago, but now I would like pas to a simple air cooling by my job, every 3/4 months I need change to the city and home. With water cooling are dangerous by problems if water exit from pipes.

So, for this change I have dudes about temps and good work with Asrock X99 ITX and i7-5930K. Well I read about Noctua NH-C14 is a good cooler. Before buy this cooler and NCASE I would like know your knowns and predictions about temps and works.

My hardware:
  • CPU: I7-5930K
  • P.B.: Asrock X99e ITX/ac
  • GPU: PENDENT NEW GPUs
  • RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z 32GB (16x2GB) 3200MHz
  • M.2: Samsung 950 Pro 512GB
  • SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 750GB
  • HDD: Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB
  • F.A.: Corsair SF600
  • Caja: PENDENT
I use my pc to games (around 3 hours day), watch films, web, AutoCAD 2D/3D, stream, office works & other tasks...

Hi JaPeMo,

I have a similar setup I put together recently which should be a good example of those temps you'd expect.

Case: Ncase M1 v5
Mobo: Asrock x99-itx
CPU: 6800k overclocked to 4.1hz at 1.27v
Cooler: Noctua U9DXi4

During my stress testing with Aida64 on the cpu, my temps would peak at 60C after an hour or so. When running Aida64 and running an open air gtx770 the cpu temps peaked at 70C, but stayed in the low to mid 60s.

Keeping in mind that those temps are worst case scenarios, your everyday temps should be much better. For example, while watching movies while internet browsing, temps hover in the high 20s to low 30s.

The C14 is a better cooler than mine too. Really the cooling performance you need depends how many volts you are comfortable pushing at your cpu. If you are confortable with higher voltages such as 1.4 needed for even higher overclocks then you may need that extra cooling performance.

I too came from AIO watercooling, and haven't looked backed since.

Only possible with a Xeon at the moment, but the E5-1650v3 is unlocked if your goal is overclocking. 32GB modules are probably a ways away. 16GB ones only just came out about a year ago I believe. If you switch to a Xeon, you can go all the way to 256GB in this board actually.
 
Not sure if this was covered in the thread, but I needed to use a riser in my case and it would only work when switching the the PCIE speed to Gen1. Hope that helps!

Hey Neapolitan6th, I'm looking into a remarkably similar build to yours at the moment it seems, and just trying to figure out the RAM clearance in reality under the U9DXi4 with the x99 mobo

I'm looking at Vengeance LPX 16Gb x 2 to max out the board, but they quote 33mm height, and Noctua suggests 32mm clearance maximum for the U9DXi4. To spice it up I found a Tomshardware article suggesting there might be up to 35mm clearance! (I can shoot you the link, trying not to break the <3-post-link rule or it should come up typing in "U9DXi4 Tomshardware" into google).

What RAM did you go for in your build and what was the clearance like?

Hope this picture of my build gives you a better idea.

Ram height is limited. Mine don't have heatsinks since I went for the cheapest 16gb x2 dimms I could find.

If you are planning on using the SF600 and the x99 itx motherboard, you will want to get a custom cpu 24 pin cable because the one supplied is simlpy too short. You can make it work as I have, but it seriously complicated my build and is way too taut. I had to adjust the fan higher on the cpu heatsink just to get the wire routed around it.

I'm not sure about those specific dimms, but I hope the picture helps you get a better idea.

Well...i've tried only very first builds of Sierra...and decided to stay happy where i'm now! ;)
But Yes, Sierra works on X99E-ITX! ;)
 
Now if NVMe M.2 SSDs & Pascal GPUs could 'just work' under Sierra…!

Interesting. Among other things I was never able to get USB 3 to work on 10.11, but it works flawlessly under 10.12. Did you have any problems with that?

USB 3.0 works fine under ElCap on this mobo, USB 3.1 NO.
So...3.1 works fine and stable on Sierra?

Huh, that's curious. I had the Asmedia 3.1 ports working (although not sure if at 3.0 or 3.1 speeds), but enabling the Intel 3.0 ports always gave me a kernel panic at boot in 10.11. Both Intel and Asmedia are working in 10.12 though, again not 100% sure if the Asmedia ones are at 3.1 speed or 3.0.

This is the only X99 ITX board, just dreaming in a new upgrade :)
I'd like a doble ultra m2 and USB 3.1 type-C :jimlad:

(...and add a titan x mini itx in my wishlist please!)
 
Lets add thunderbolt 3.0 to that.

My favorite would be some crazy way of adding another pcie 3.0 connector to the thing that would work with riser cables.

Well the PCIe 3.0 x16 on the Asrock X99 ITX mobo can be bifurcated to two PCIe 3.0 x8, that's more than enough for running a GPU and some other devices.

This is true. My issue with bifurcation is that it typically renders the top pcie slot unusable for normal add in cards if I'm not mistaken. This being due to the motherboard pcie slot being populated by the bifucated riser.

Though come to think of it, perhaps this issue could be fixed when using a half height add in card and a modified rear i/o bracket... Hmm...
