Simple build. My first real build actually. Last one was just a shuttle.

Components:
Case: Silverstone SG10
Mobo: Asus Rampage IV Gene
Ram: Mushkin Redline 996997
CPU: i7 3820 (temp placeholder while I wait for IB-E)
GPU: nVidia GTX Titan
PSU: Corsair AX860i
Cooling: Corsair H80i and Dynatron R16
Fans: Coolermaster Blademaster fans in 80mm, 92mm and 120mm sizes.
Storage: (2) 128GB Samsung 830 in raid0 for the OS, 256GB Crucial M4 as scratch, and a 500GB WD Black 7200 spinner for temp media.

Was posting this on another board, but figured I would post it here too for some feedback. I will catch up to where I am in this post, and then post additionally as I update it.

Internal power cable that came with the case was too long, so I cut about 6 inches off it. Crimped on some spade connectors, and then used heat shrink to keep them extra tight. Pulled a new power connector out of some old server that was laying around. Old one was soldered to the cable I cut lol.

Still waiting for the mobo to show, but I don't really want to wait until it arrives to start on the wiring...so I just guessed where the main 24pin connection would be in the case without it lol. Looked at some pictures of the mobo, and I think I got it pretty close to where it will actually be.

Got creative with holding it in place as I was mocking up the wiring. Used some zip ties, twist ties, and pliers as place holders lol

I rigged the bundle to the case, and ran each wire to the plug it would be going to, and cut them all the length.

Then I got to sleeving. Finished half of it today, still need to crimp new ends on each wire, and then heat shrink and run them to the correct plugs.

Needed some additional desk space, so I stopped for a second to finally drill/mount my wall vesa bracket.

Thinking about completely sealing the case, got some thick AC weatherstripping to use around the larger air gaps between the panels and fans

Been doing small mods as I put stuff in. This is how the case is designed to mount the hard drives. 2 3.5" drives behind the mobo, and 4 2.5", stacked in pairs, below those.

I didn't really like that, and figured I could clean it up some. Had to modify the 2.5" drive brackets on the left, just drill some holes, so I could flip them around. Now the power/data plugs are facing each other, while being parallel to keep the cable horizontal.

so, I debated grinding down the case...figured it would be easier to just grind down the heatsink on the 1RU cooler.
It took FOREVER lmao. I did it by hand, no grinder was accessible at the time.

The cooler sucks in from the sides, and blows out the top. This is looking at the top of the case, where a 180mm fan will be pulling hot air up and out.

I ordered some bolts/nuts with the same thread pitch as those used to secure the cooler on the mobo. This way, I can run coolers on both sides

From today...well, the H80i radiator is kinda big...I might be drilling some new holes and flipping it upside down in the future to facilitate an SLI setup. For now, I will only be utilizing one of the PCIe slots.

Still can't believe how close that ram is to the fan lol. Mocked up the CPU power cable, will be slicing and dicing it tomorrow. Tucked the fan wires for the H80i. Looks much nicer than the silly 'wrap around the hose' job I usually see.

SSDs are ran from the top connector on the psu. The H80i from the second connector down. They are flat, and run along parallel until the bottom of the case. The two wire bundles I am holding are for the other fans, and for the CPU. Need to shorten them. Below those will be the PCIe power. The other rails should be empty on the PSU for future use.

great looking build, loved the write up.

Never knew about cooling the cpu from behind the mobo, I guess you'd need it on LGA2011 and 125w+ TDP's.

It isn't designed to be used as I am using it, I just figured it would be more efficient than passive cooling on the back. The H80i should be more than enough for the TDP, but when the next gen procs come out, I will be upgrading and overclocking.

My main concerns are power and cooling related, as those two topics are critical to longevity and overclocking.

For the cooling side of the build, everything will be PWM. Contrary to utilizing a lot of the fan headers on the mobo, I tried my best to prevent the mobo from powering too many devices.

The case fans are going to use one mobo fan header for PWM, and all be used in one circuit off the PSU for power. The H80i is on a different mobo PWM header, and is powered off of its own port on the PSU.

So, the only things the mobo will be powering, other than the proc, ram and vga card, is the 1RU Dynatron cooler on the back of the mobo, and the top 180mm case fan. The 1RU cooler is PWM. I didn't want the top fan to be PWM because it is already variable/switched. I may replace it in the future with another fan, and that one will be PWM.

Found that by bending the mount for the top 180mm fan, I could flip the radiator.

Also taped off the fans to improve their efficiency. What you don't see in the pic, is I had to grind down the bottom of the 120mm fan (on the left) so that the fan wiring would fit underneath it without binding the fan chassis.

Not sure if I will use the 80mm fan or not...I ran the wiring so that I could utilize it if I want, but I am thinking about blocking off the inside port, so that this hole in the case exterior is only an intake for the rear mounted 1RU cooler.

Cut the top fan insulation and mocked it up. The excess wire for the 180mm fan is simply wrapped around the fan, between it and the insulation.

More wiring...word of warning to anyone doing wiring; pin out your PSU, pin out your wiring, and then triple check it. If I hadn't I would have fried some shit, namely the graphics card.

So, I cut about 24" of length out of the PCIe harness lmao.

Cutting all of the wiring to length serves two purposes for me. One, it assists with cooling, freeing up space for the air to move. Two, a shorter wire has less voltage drop, so better performance. Ok, maybe there is a third reason, don't want a bunch of excess covering up the goods :)

I just bent it up a bit, just enough to fit the radiator.
It is so slight, you can't even really tell by looking at it.

Only way I could get a decent pic, is by looking at it from the rear. You can see the screw head is just a tad over the top of the case plane.

Think I have the corsair link module for the PSU in a location that is fitting. I hit it with some liquid rubber, and will be cleaning up the wiring a little bit tomorrow...and then booting it up. Hopefully I don't get any funny smells, or plumes of magic blue smoke :p
 
Done for now. Installed my new monitor today, monoprice 27" 2560x1440 IPS-S <3
Going to tinker with things...might need to reapply my TIM, vcore temps are a bit uneven, but within 5*C. Need to benchmark, and then play with overclocking the monitor once I have everything sorted.

This is really fantastic, and a pretty big deal for a first "real" build. Kudos.
 
Thanks :) It has been a learning experience lol. I was very hesitant to start it up the first time, but it all seems to be working well.
Going through different benchmark testing, learning the BIOS, etc, now. Going to see what I score on some test with just the H80i, and then again with the R16 installed. LINX has been giving me errors, so I am investigating that at the moment.
 
Couple of bench results. Have the system stable at 4.4GHz CPU and 2133MHz RAM. This is without the R16 cooler on the back. I will install it after I finish the rest of the benches, and see if I can squeeze out a bit more on the CPU.

Sorted out the errors, but I am not sure what it was. Had to be a setting in the bios, as that is all I changed.
Good news is, I ran a higher clock, and had lower temps! Must be doing something right :)

Couldn't get it to pass Prime with this, but it passed LinX. Been running prime with a 28 CPU multiplier (4489.51MHz) for about an hour and a half now. I will let it go for another hour or so and then bump the multiplier up to 29. Should put me at about 4.6GHz.

Well, I think I hit the wall with just the H80i, so I just finished installing R16 and the copper heatsinks on the back of the board. Best pics I could get. Tried to show the wiring under the graphics card, but it is still difficult to see (which was kinda the point :p ).

Honestly, the H80i has been working great for me. When I clocked the CPU to 4.8GHz today running LinX, it kept the temps below 70C, and it was still very very quiet. The computer sits very close to me on the desk, and it was barely audible above the AC. While that OC profile isn't stable enough for prime yet (I am still working on tweaking it), it does stress the CPU quite a bit, and the H80i kept up. I am confident that it would be fine for gaming, and that is something I will be trying in the future.

So, the 4.8GHz isn't stable in Prime yet, but I got the 4.5GHz profile running pretty well. Unfortunately, I got to about 2 hours into (with just the H80i) it and I BSOD'd. Core temps were still good, so I suspected that there was issues with the VRM/mosfet heat which caused instability. That is why I installed the R16 and heatsinks. Been running Prime since then without issue.

Tomorrow I will bump the multiplier up one and see how it does. For now:

Nice. Massive kudos to you for shortening your wires. I'm too chicken shit to do it myself :(

May have to try and bend the top fan bracket. Did you have any issues screwing it in/the end of hte screw hitting the radiator?

Oh, I couldn't live without modding it. I mod everything I have, cars, bikes, house, etc. It is just what I do.
If I didn't mod the cables, I couldn't have wrapped them in the sleeving, they were just too long. I cut a lot out of them.
Honestly, I know it improves both the electrical signal, and the cooling capacity of the case, so it is a win-win.
Unfortunately, I have moved again, and have yet to use the case in my in environment. It will be a test for it, I guarantee it :D

Can't remember who I bought it from, but I know that I had ordered some from dazmode. Pretty sure it isn't their sleeve though, according to the invoice I only ordered a foot from them. The size is 2mm or 1/8" though.
