Can anyone please explain to me why the 3800+ would be going for less than the 4200+? I mean I don't know that much about AMD processors, but if i'ts the same type of processor, like an X2, the higher the number the better right? So what's going on here?

Yes. Both are the x2 manchester socket 939 procs that I was compairing. When AMD had their price drops not too long ago, the x2 3800+ 939 was about 145 bux on newegg and the 4200+ x2 939 (both manchester cores) were around 190. Then, the 3800 started creeping up to a point where I kept thinking "why would anyone buy a 3800+ when you can get the 4200+ for just a few dollars more?". Now at this point, the 4200 is actually CHEAPER. You'd definitely have to be a moron to buy the 3800 over the 4200 at this point. That is, unless there's something about them that I don't know.

I know that with the dual cores, I've read about some people having difficulties with running some games and applications on a dual core platform. I happen to have personal experience with AMD processors just plain not being compatible with certain programs without utilitizing some work around. I.E. Xp Sp2 where I had to edit the boot.ini to get it to boot into windows.

X2 3800+'s can be found for like $150 shipped. Chances are the 3800+'s are selling so well that they just moved up a bit, and people either aren't paying attention, or they aren't selling. ;) I'll all come out in the wash.

I'd like to know where you're finding x2 3800s for 150 bux. Please let me know.
